Equestrian property for sale
Key information
Property description & features
- Tenure: Freehold
The house, known as Benskins Cottage, was built in the early 1600’s with some more recent additions – which includes the porch to the front which was likely built in the 19th century. It provides over 3,000 sq ft of accommodation on three floors and whilst it has plenty of character, it is in very poor condition and will require extensive refurbishment and modernisation. There are front and rear gardens with the front garden enclosed by a low brick-built wall and a disused swimming pool just down from the house.
The chapel was constructed in the 1970’s replacing an old barn. It has some 1644 sq ft of floor space and arranged with a large nave on the ground floor together with a first floor mezzanine and a small sanctuary to the south east side of the building. On a lower level, down from the nave, is a reading & storage area, utility room and two cloakrooms.
The lodge, known as Bethany Lodge, has 10-12 bedrooms and was previously used as a religious holiday retreat centre. It was constructed in the 1980’s with the accommodation arranged over three floors – a semi-basement, ground floor and first floor. The attached floor plans give a helpful guide as to the arrangement and number of rooms on each floor. There are small gardens to the front and rear with a small ornamental pond to the front.
Outside
The properties are accessed from Cottage Lane and a small track which runs off it along the north west side of the Cottage with two double-gated entrances and a pedestrian gate into the Cottage garden. There is also a small area of land on the west side of the track providing a useful parking area.
The land lies predominantly to the south and southeast of the properties; the majority of the land falling away below the properties on the south east side down to a small stream and ponds before rising up again. On the south side, there is a two acre parcel which runs up above the levels of the property with a gated access further along Cottage Lane.
To the north of Benskins Cottage is an area where there are a few individual timber sheds and enclosures which once catered for some livestock and a few animals. Below the Cottage, in a part of the garden, is a disused swimming pool.

OnTheMarket may have applied supplementary data to this property listing, including:
Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on January 2, 2024
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on January 2, 2024
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on September 25, 2017 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
