Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem pub is next to Nottingham Castle and claims to be the oldest pub in the Uk, there are records to show that it has been a pub since 1751 but no records to back up the claim that it dates back to 1189. 
Transport
There is a bus stop a short walk from the park that goes into Nottingham City Centre.
Once in Nottingham you can make the most of the tram system.
Nottingham station is a mainline station, London takes less than 1hr 45 minutes.
