Heywood is a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale. It lies on the south bank of the River Roch and is 7 miles north of Manchester. Historically a part of Lancashire, Heywood developed into a mill town during a period of extraordinary growth in the cotton trade in the mid 19th Century. Many mills have now been demolished to make way for housing.
Heywood is close to Junction 19 of the M62 which makes commuting easy. The town's major landmark is the 1860's built 57m tall Parish Church which dominates the town centre and skyline.
