Located just a stone’s throw away from our new homes, Ilfracombe has, for the longest time, been considered a go-to destination town thanks to its beautiful beaches and intricate Victorian architecture, as well as its many visually impressive landmarks, including its hand carved Tunnels and the Iron Age fortified settlement it houses – from which visitors can take in stunning views of Ilfracombe’s beautiful landscape.
What are some of the fun things to do in Ilfracombe?
With the proximity of our new homes to Ilfracombe, for an outdoorsy person, a day trip to the beach will always be on the table. And, with all of the idyllic coastal walks in Ilfracombe, you might very well end up spending all day by the beach. 
The town also boasts an eclectic selection of open-to-all sporting clubs including a football club, a rugby club, a golf club, a cricket club, a tennis club, a running club, and so much more!
Asides from these more active pursuits, Ilfracombe is also known for its rich cultural scene, being home to a wide array of art galleries – including the popular Echo Beach and Magenta Fine Art galleries – and the annual Ilfracombe Carnival that takes place in the summer and is always lots of fun for the whole family. 
If retail therapy is more your thing, when it comes to shopping in Ilfracombe, the town is home to a quaint selection of independent retailers. However, further afield, in the town of Barnstaple, there is a wider selection of more established shops (as well as a number of independent stores too).
Schools in Ilfracombe
Ilfracombe is home to three schools – an infant &amp; nursery school, a Church of England junior school and a secondary school/sixth form college – with all three of the schools being awarded a Good rating by Ofsted as of their most recent inspections (as of 2023).
Ilfracombe’s secondary school, The Ilfracombe Academy, is a nationally recognised centre for Media Studies.
