An attractive Victorian three bedroom, two reception and two bathroom terraced house, with a walled garden. The house is centrally located in the friendly and highly sought after village of Colerne, just 6.7 miles from the heart of Georgian Bath.
The vendor says: “The central location in the heart of Colerne appealed to me, being on the high street you’re very much surrounded by the village daily activity. The villagers are very friendly and sociable. Everyone has been so helpful and kind, especially during the past difficult year.”
“The post office, village shop, hair salon and the two pubs; The Six Bells and The Fox and Hounds are all within walking distance. There are countless beautiful country walks less than five minutes from the front door. It will definitely be a challenge to find another village that is not only close to a beautiful city but that’s also surrounded by stunning countryside. Although the house had been newly renovated when I bought it, I chose to replace the floors and kitchen. There was also some work that needed to be done to the fireplaces. I removed some of the doorways as there were two entrances into the sitting room and a couple of unnecessary doorways on the landing. Now you enter the front door into a lighter reception room, which backs onto the living room. The sitting room now has a gas fired log burner as recommended and installed by Mendip Fireplaces Bath Ltd, making it a lovely cosy room in winter.”
“Both the reception room and sitting room now have oak floors. The kitchen is a bespoke handmade, shaker style kitchen painted in F&B Railings, with a double Belfast sink looking out over the garden. I replaced the grey slate floor for a lighter, natural cream limestone floor. There is a stainless steel electric Belling oven with gas hob. There is plenty of room for a table for six. The kitchen is a lovely light sunny room with double doors leading out to the garden. The garden faces west, with the doors open in the summer you really can bring the outside in."
"There is also a utility room with space for a washing machine and stacked tumble dryer, also a wc. The gas boiler is in the utility room, so it is the perfect boot room, a nice warm space to take off your boots after a country walk!"
“There are two double bedrooms on the first floor, both with original Victorian panelling. I had built-in wardrobes installed into one of the bedrooms, so along with the existing under-stair cupboards in the other two bedrooms there is reasonable storage space. Along with the two bedrooms there is also a bathroom on the first floor, the bath has a shower attachment.”
“On the second floor, the attic has been converted into a bedroom with a large en suite shower room. There are beautiful far reaching country views towards Box and Corsham from the Velux windows.”
“The attractive walled garden is currently a blank canvas for the keen gardener; it’s a decent and manageable size with a pretty stone outbuilding and log store, there is also a pathed seating area. The garden has rear access which is extremely convenient."
There is a local playgroup and a village primary school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. The village also has a football and rugby club with a large mini section for kids playing both sports. The nearest excellent restaurant is at Lucknam Park, 1.5 miles away for fine dining or a lovely tea at Hywel Jones’s Michelin Star Restaurant. The White Hart at Ford and the Catherine Wheel at Marshfield are good pubs with food as well, and the country walks to Euridge and Ditteridge are wonderful. There are good road links with the M4 nearby, as well as railway stations at Bath, 7.4 miles, or Chippenham, 8.6 miles and a service to London in 62 minutes.
“It has been an unbelievable pleasure to live in such a charming house in the middle of a lively village, surrounded by so many beautiful walks in fields and woodland, yet be in such close proximity of Bath, one of the world heritage sites, with all its shops and restaurants, as well as having easy access to the motorway, what a gem of a village!”
