The owner says: “I’ve always loved Bath and had a friend who lived in the Empire so when this apartment came up 11 years ago I was very keen to see it. It is quite rare to get a two bedroom apartment with views in this amazing building in the centre of town, so I was happy to buy it.”
“I’ve done quite a lot of work to the apartment. I put in a new Poggenpohl kitchen with Miele appliances and a new shower room and en-suite bathroom, with under floor heating. The apartment is carpeted in grey throughout. In the sitting room I have put in a corian frame for the television in the fireplace space but if anyone wanted to put a fireplace there they could. I have a lot of modern abstract paintings and sculpture and the apartment really lends itself to this look,” says the owner.
“I think it is lovely,” she says. “I have views over the back of the building, over the Victoria Art Gallery and the Guild Hall. It’s a great outlook – I feel like I’m in Florence. I’m also lucky enough to have a balcony which runs the whole length of the apartment. I get the sun in the afternoon and early evening, so it’s a perfect spot to sit. I also look out over the charming roof garden of the Empire just below.”
“There is a brilliant social aspect to living in the Empire as well. Every Monday there is a coffee morning for the residents, there are some dinners throughout the year and a film club and in the basement there is a snooker room a gym and a craft room. At Christmas pupils of King Edward’s come and sing carols for us and we have a superb Christmas dinner as well. However, everyone has their own space, so you don’t have to get involved if you don’t want to.”
“The Empire in an excellent location in Orange Grove between Bath Abbey and Pulteney Bridge. It is brilliant to live right in the heart of Bath, and it is a flat walk to Waitrose and all the amazing restaurants, shops and bars of Bath as well as the galleries, museums and theatres. The train station is also an easy walk with trains to London currently taking 90 minutes. I will really miss this great apartment and all it has to offer.”

OnTheMarket may have applied supplementary data to this property listing, including:
Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on December 20, 2021
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on January 4, 2022
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on July 6, 2023 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
