Description
Situated in the heart of Deddington village, Castle View is a quaint, quintessentially English cottage with the benefit of Stile Cottage, a separate cottage tucked away behind a Hornton stone wall.
Lot 1 - Castle View A pretty 17th century cottage with later additions. Fire brick dated 1757. Grade II listed of Hornton stone construction under a tiled roof. Wealth of period features include open fireplaces, exposed timbers, window seats, pine floor boards, panelled internal doors. The property has undergone a sympathetic modernisation programme and offers a light kitchen/breakfast room with a three oven Aga, pantry, conservatory and open fire place. Other key features include a cellar, unusual for a cottage and ample storage. Whilst the sitting room, is divided in two, it could revert back to one room by the removal of two book cases, and has an open fireplace with a gas fired coal Jotul stove. Externally, and more importantly, is a dis-proportionately large garden to the rear. This garden is level and enclosed, and has an abundance of mature trees, borders, beds and fan trained fruit trees. Immediately to the rear is a paved seating area capturing the afternoon and evening light, ideal for summer entertaining. There are two garden stores for the green fingered, and a gateway leading to The Stile.
Lot 2 - Stile Cottage started its life in the early 18th century as a building within the grounds of Castle View, and therefore Grade II listed under its curtilage, the cottage has had, over the years, many uses ranging from a gardener’s cottage through to stabling and more recently a venue for bridge parties. Once owned by John Hopcraft, a renowned landowner in the early 19th century, the cottage was converted into a two-storey house in 1994. Approached up a secluded lane off Goose Green and through a private pedestrian gate, a path leads to an entrance porch to the side of the property. Internally the accommodation is open plan, offering plenty of natural light with double French doors looking over the garden. The cottage sits on a plot approximately 94ft x 24ft with the majority of the garden to the west of the property with a small eating terrace and established flower beds. The garden is secluded from Castle View and would make a lovely annexe.
