Description - Brampton Park House is the formers officers Mess of RAF Brampton which is now mostly derelict but which is proposed to be converted into 13 residential Duplexes. The former officers mess, and the adjacent coachhouse and linked stables are both Grade 2 Listed and are set between North Road and Central Avenue within the newly developed wider Brampton Park Park site. Formally a country house of the early Nineteenth Century and earlier it was rebuilt by Thomas Steadman for Lady Olivia Bernard Sparrow in 1821-22, with further alterations by John Buonarotti Papworth in 1825. The main house was partially rebuilt in 1907 after a fire, extended in the mid/late C20 and refurbished in the 1980's
The Brampton Park Estate was originally approximately 125 acres dating back to the 12th Century with a substantial house built circa 16th Century, part of which was then remodelled in the 1800's. The house went through a number of owners/uses, including for PoW's in WW1, nursery during WW2 and then the US Army Corps and ultimately the officers mess for RAF Brampton from 1952 until circa 2013 when the Estae was sold to a property development company for circa 500 new dwellings, most of which have now been constructed.
The house has been approved residential planning permission in 2016 for a single dwelling under planning references 15/02016/FUL and 15/02017/LBC by Huntingdon District Council and also for conversion to 13 separate dwellings under planning reference 19/00028/FUL, approved in June 2020.
The property offers excellent development potential, either as a single dwelling, conversion into townhouse style homes, conversion into duplex/apartments or for use as a hotel/conference/office building, all subject to the necessary consents.
