An exceptional detached Edwardian house with a very high specification situated in an accessible countryside location on the edge of the popular village of Chitterne.

The Red House is an elegant detached Edwardian house which has been comprehensively and tastefully re-furbished by the current owners. Work has included re-roofing, re-wiring and re-plumbing in addition to the windows being replaced with hardwood double glazed sash windows and the property has been re-pointed. The interior has also been extensively re-fitted and refurbished to a particularly high standard with superior fittings in addition to tasteful colour pallets and an eye to historical detail and features including stripped wooden floors, panelled doors, open fireplaces with woodburners and traditional radiators. An attractive oak framed garden room has also been added to enlarge the ground floor accommodation and an oak clad detached garage/log store/workshop has also been constructed.

The accommodation, which is in excellent order throughout, includes a hall where there are stairs to the first floor with an attractive natural turned banister and spindles. There is a storage cupboard underneath and a cloakroom with traditional fittings including a high level WC and wash hand basin, quarry tiled flooring and a deep storage cupboard. To the right of the hall there is an attractive double aspect sitting room which has a fireplace with cast iron and Adam style surround with a woodburner and slate hearth. There is also fitted open shelving.

To the left of the hall there is a large kitchen/dining room which incorporates a double bowl sink unit with extensive adjoining timber work surfaces and splashback, space for range cooker, fireplace with slate hearth and timber surround with fitted woodburner and a stable door to a covered rear porch. From the dining area there is a superior quality oak framed double glazed garden room/studio which has underfloor heating, a vaulted ceiling and French doors to the garden. At the far end of the hall there is a utility room with a belfast sink with adjoining timber draining board and work surfaces, cupboards, drawers and shelving, a Grant boiler which supplies the domestic hot water and serves the radiators with a Heatrae Sadia hot water cylinder above. Plumbing and space for automatic washing machine and a door to the outside.

On the first floor there is a landing with access to a loft and a principal bedroom which has open shelving and extensive views across the fields and two further double bedrooms, both of which have fitted wardrobes, cupboards and open shelving.
There is a bathroom with a white suite of panelled bath with mixer tap and shower attachment, wash hand basin and high level WC, panelling to dado level and shelved linen cupboard. There is also a shower room with a cubicle and Heritage shower, wash hand basin with cupboards beneath and a WC.

The Red house lies in the Townsend area of Chitterne which is a Conservation Area. Chitterne is a close knit small rural community which is situated amidst rolling chalk downland on the western edge of Salisbury Plain and the village has a public house, church, village hall, playground and cricket club, whilst the nearby larger villages of Codford, Heytesbury and Shrewton have between them good everyday amenities including a selection of shops, Post Office facilities, primary schools, petrol stations, doctors surgeries and vets.
The market town of Warminster is approximately eight miles away where there are more extensive facilities including a railway station with services to London, Bristol and Southampton whilst Westbury has direct rail services to London Paddington. The nearest regional airports are at Bournemouth, Bristol and Southampton.
Chitterne is an attractive location on the edge of countryside which is easily accessible. The nearby A36 provides convenient access to the cathedral City of Salisbury and Bath, whilst the A303 is also within striking distance which gives direct access to London, the west country, the Thames Valley corridor and the motorway network. The village is well within reach of several well regarded schools in both the state and private sectors including Dauntseys, Warminster School and Salisbury’s grammar and independent schools. Chitterne is surrounded by wide open stretches of undulating countryside which cater for all manner of country pursuits including walking, riding, field sports and cyling, as well as sailing at Shearwater. Racing is at Salisbury, Bath and Wincanton in addition to rugby union at Bath and golf at Tollard Royal, Warminster and Salisbury. There are several interesting visitor attractions nearby including the National Trust gardens at Stourhead, the stately home and Safari Park at Longleat and the World Heritage prehistoric site at Stonehenge.

Outside there are twin five bar gates which lead to a parking and turning area in addition to a garage/woodstore/workshop which has oak timber cladding and clay tiled roof. There is an enclosed garden which incorporates a paved seating area beyond which there are brick and flint retaining walls, a lawn, raised beds and a cold Frame. There is also a bunded oil tank. The property backs onto open fields and enjoys delightful views.

Council Tax Band E.

Private drainage, mains water and electricity are available.

From Salisbury take the A360 Devizes Road and on reaching the A303 continue straight across towards Shrewton. At the next junction veer left and continue through Shrewton and at the far end of the village turn left onto the B390 towards Chitterne. Continue along here and on entering the village turn right at the left hand bend signposted Tilshead and continue into Townsend whereupon The Red House will be seen towards the end on the left hand side.

    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s

Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on April 22, 2009 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
