Description
This striking stone house, dating from the mid 20th Century with later additions, sits in a very private and elevated position, surrounded by its well-established grounds. The house was built from local greensand salvaged from the nearby Ferne House which was demolished in 1965 and benefits from large, bright rooms and stone mullion windows, adding to its charm.
A double oak front door opens into an entrance lobby and through to a spacious entrance hall, with French doors into the garden. To one side is a drawing room, with a Jetmaster fire set within a carved wooden fire surround. Glazed bi-fold doors open through to a triple-aspect garden room/sitting room, that is flooded with light and has French doors into the garden.
The opposite end of the hall leads through to a study, cloakroom/WC and a downstairs bedroom suite with its own bathroom.
The kitchen/breakfast room is L-shaped, allowing one side to be dedicated to dining, with French doors onto a stone terrace. The ‘working’ part of the kitchen boasts an oil-fired AGA, fitted cupboards, an additional oven and a pantry area leading through to the utility room. The utility has further fitted cupboards, a sink, walk-in larder, plumbing for a washing machine and doors to both the garden and the garage.
Upstairs, from the large galleried landing, is the dual-aspect principal bedroom, with fitted wardrobes and en suite bathroom. There are two further bedrooms on this floor, one with an en suite bathroom and both with fitted wardrobes.
Outside
The house is approached from Scotts Hill, via a five-bar gate, onto a large driveway with a double garage to one side and parking for several cars.
Behind the house is a spacious stone terrace bordered with a cotoneaster hedge. Sweeping lawns slope gently down away from the house, edged with deep herbaceous borders. A beech hedge and mature trees form an attractive boundary around the garden.

OnTheMarket may have applied supplementary data to this property listing, including:
Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on July 8, 2022
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on July 8, 2022
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on December 10, 2021 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
