Features and description

  • Tenure: Freehold
  • Stunning panoramic sea views over the English Channel
  • Substantial three storey semi detached Victorian residence
  • Incredibly versatile layout with spacious accommodation
  • Superb inter generational opportunity or potential for three apartments
  • Delightful period features retained throughout

  • EPC energy rating D
Situated high on the hillside, overlooking Ventnor with superb panoramic views to the sea and backing onto Boniface Downs, you will find this fascinating three storey Victorian property. It was built in 1889 and would make an ideal inter-generational home, a bed and breakfast property or become three flats.

Although the ground floor has been modernised and refurbished recently the entire three floors still retain delightful period features including sash windows, high ceilings, picture rails, wood flooring, fireplaces and the original staircase. The property provides flexible accommodation with the ground floor currently designed as a self-contained apartment while the upper two floors are basically a blank canvas.

The exterior is charming with bays windows on each floor, attractive brickwork and steps up to the arched front doorway. Once inside the spacious inner hall with its lovely staircase, ornamental archway and polished wood flooring provides the feeling of elegance from a bygone era. It leads to the attractive lounge with its lovely bay window, built in shelving and impressive fireplace. There is a well fitted kitchen/breakfast room with wood flooring, an attractive tiled bathroom as well as two double bedrooms including the main bedroom with fitted bedroom furniture.

The first floor kitchen is a good size and, because of the external topography, includes a door to the rear garden. The sitting room has a bay window offering stunning views to the sea while the hall includes double doors to the bathroom, access to the separate cloakroom, the formal dining room/second bedroom and a double bedroom. Panoramic views and original features continue on the top floor that could become a separate flat but is currently configured as four double bedrooms, a study and cloakroom.

The rear garden includes a plethora of shrubs and wooded areas as well as paths and nooks and crannies with charming seating areas where you can enjoy the views and direct access to St Boniface Downs.

What the Owner says:
The property has been in our family for the past 60 years and it has been a wonderful home. However we feel it is now time for us to downsize. The location is delightful as it is only a five minute stroll to the centre of Ventnor and the same distance to Bonchurch and not far from the bowling and tennis clubs. Boniface Downs is owned by the National Trust and is an area of Special Scientific Interest and offers wonderful places to go for a country walk. It is named after the 8th century St Boniface who is believed to have preached in Bonchurch at Pulpit Rock.

Ventnor is a charming town and became one of the more famous seaside resorts during Victorian times when Queen Victoria frequented Osborne House as she liked its unique micro-climate. The town has a delightful seafront with a traditional bandstand and great walks along the sea wall and beside the gorgeous Cascade Gardens. As Ventnor's all year round climate is milder than that of the surrounding areas it is notable for its superb Victorian Botanic Gardens, where you can enjoy a wander round a 22 acre sub-tropical paradise.
