Impressive Victorian character residence in the centre of historic Wimborne Minster.

Description

This notable house was built in 1899 as The Manse for the neighbouring United Reform Church in Chapel Lane. It has pleasing elevations of mainly red brick, enhanced by bands and panels of yellow brick, twin bay windows, and distinctive gables with decorative barge boards and finials, under a slate roof. The house has well-proportioned rooms with excellent ceiling heights, and retains a wealth of original character features including fireplaces, decorative cornices & ceiling roses, sash windows, and a particularly fine staircase with decorative balustrading.

A wide panelled front door with glazed fanlight over, opens into the impressive reception hall, with a superb encaustic tiled floor, understairs storage cupboards, and a guest cloakroom, with coat storage area. The elegant drawing room has a bay window to the front, a fireplace with brick inset and hearth, and fitted log burner, and an arched display cabinet with shelving and storage to one side, The dining room also has a bay window to the front, a wood floor, and a fireplace with brick inset and hearth. The cosy sitting room/ study has a pretty fireplace with cast iron and tiled inset and hearth, wood floor and French doors to the terrace and garden. The kitchen has been attractively fitted with an extensive range of modern units by Chippendale with quartz surfaces, including an integrated fridge/ freezer and dishwasher, two burner Neff induction hob with Neff cooker hood over, a gas-fired Aga set into a recess, and a walk in larder with shelving. Leading off is a good size utility with Belfast sink and granite draining shelf, plumbing and space for washer and dryer, and a wall mounted Vaillant gas fired central heating boiler. The back door gives access to a glass roofed covered porch, with doors to the garden, an internal courtyard used for bin storage, a walk in store used for wine, and a garden store.

A handsome original wood staircase with turned balustrading leads up to the galleried landing. The generous main bedroom has a wide bay window, attractive fireplace, and fitted wardrobe. There are three further good size bedrooms, all with original period fire surrounds. The family bathroom has half tiled walls, and a Victorian style tiled floor, panelled bath, basin and separate corner shower. Leading off is a box room, currently used as a laundry room. There is also a separate WC with wash basin. NB It could be possible to create an en suite to the main bedroom, subject of course to obtaining any necessary permissions
