Characterful and charming, blending traditional and modern in a beautiful harbourside cottage.

Description

The modernisation of Captains Cottage has been thoughtfully and stylishly carried out to allow maximum use of space while retaining the charm and atmosphere of a traditional cottage.

The entrance into the kitchen reveals that this is an old property which has been treated with modern furnishings and fittings to create a very comfortable interior. Exposed stone walls, flagstones and recesses set off the high-quality décor, kitchen units, integrated appliances that include two Miele ovens and a Bora hob with drag down extractor, wall tiles, lights and the enlarged window overlooking Church Lane, to create a beautiful, practical room. A dining table across the window seat can accommodate eight and there is plenty of very useful storage space.

Turning stairs, of a slightly wavy tendency (one wonders if a tipsy captain made it safely to the first floor) are naturally lit by a staircase window.

On the first floor is a shower room and a large double bedroom with fitted wardrobe and deep storage cupboard. Its window seat gives a nice view over the lane below. Opposite is another large double bedroom, currently a twin room, with en suite bathroom and with a view over the courtyard garden.

Up two steps to a beautifully appointed sitting room with dark oak floor and inset LED flame effect remote controlled fire. A built in 'Art TV' is set above the fireplace. A large window allows plenty of natural light.

The staircase turns to the second floor, again with a frosted window for complete privacy.

The principal bedroom is here, with a very modern en suite, good storage and a wide window seat. It overlooks the lane, but from the shower room there is a view of the church tower and the woods beyond.

There are radiators throughout the cottage. Pale carpets and light décor give a very welcoming atmosphere.

The gated entrance leads into a under croft beyond which is a paved courtyard with ample space for a summer kitchen, with a mains gas barbecue and a gas fire pit and an area with a large table and benches. There is a corner bench seated area. A rockery and raised planters have well-tended flowers and an olive tree. There is a fully integrated utility/laundry room and WC opposite the front door, two storage cupboards off the courtyard, one with light and power, a large cupboard storing the boiler and water tank beside the car port and an electric vehicle charger.

Location

Padstow is a working port at the head of the Camel River where fishing continues to be an important part of the town’s industry.

Padstow has become a very popular tourist destination, particularly for the reputation of its best-known restaurants such as those owned by Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth, renowned for cooking locally caught seafood.

The surrounding coastline is stunning and accessible on foot with footpaths to coves and creeks towards Stepper Point where the South West Coast path continues to the well known beaches along the Atlantic coast.

The Camel Cycle Trail, continuous for 18 miles through beautiful countryside, starts and ends at Padstow. The ferry across the estuary to Rock operates all year round. The estuary is ideal for water sports and there are championship golf courses at Trevose and St Enodoc.

With its rich history Padstow attracts visitors from all over the world, most notably for the annual May Day (‘Obby ‘oss) festivities.

    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
