cricket ground. Kilmington lies approximately 2 miles from the market town of
Axminster which has an extensive range of amenities including the River Cottage
Kitchen and Deli. Axminster also has a main line rail link to London Waterloo. The
World Heritage Jurassic Coastline at Lyme Bay lies approximately 7 miles to the
south.
The National Trust’s Shute Barton House nestles in the valley bottom below the

DIRECTIONS
From Axminster head west towards Honiton on the A35. After passing Kilmington Cross and The Old Inn take the next left just before the war memorial into Kilmington. Continue through the village for approximately 0.7 miles. The road then bends round to the left and the entrance to Ashes Road is on the right, in front of you. Ashes Road is a hardcore track which continues up the hill for approximately 0.3 miles until the entrance to the woodland is found on your right hand side, indicated by a metal gate “Shute Hill Woods”.
Follow this track and Barton Wood and Sir Williams Plantation can be found on the left hand side.
Please Note: Ashes Road is only passable with a 4x4 vehicle. The track running from the gate “Shute Hill Woods” is best accessed on foot.
For viewings it may be best to park at the start of Ashes Road and walk up to the woodland.
