Description

One of a group of substantial architect-designed houses built for Newlyn School Artists in the local area, Morvah House was built just before the first world war by Reginald Dick, artist, potter, enamellist and general craftsman. It commands an elevated position above Chywoone Hill with far reaching views over Penzance, Mounts Bay & St Michaels Mount and from the upper floor views of Newlyn Harbour and the Lizard.

The house is typical of its era with good sized rooms with high ceilings and retains many of its original features.

The entrance porch is double glazed with a tiled floor. To the left of the front door is a modern, recently installed Wet Room. The front door opens in to an open and bright entrance hall with a wide return staircase to the first floor on the right and to the left the door leading into the open plan kitchen-dining room.

The kitchen area has cream Shaker style kitchen units to include a floor to ceiling pull out larder cupboard, a built in dishwasher, ceramic sink with waste disposal unit, space for a tall fridge freezer and a cream gas powered Aga. A door at the rear of the kitchen leads into a utility room which has a sink, plumbing for a washing machine, the central heating combi boiler and a door leading out to the side of the house.

The dining area has stripped pine flooring, a fireplace with recessed wood burner, double doors leading out in to the conservatory and on the right a door leading in to the sitting room. You will also notice a door on the left. This historically gave access to the annexe/studio however it is currently boarded on the Studio side as it has been rented as a separate unit. If required, the communication door could be easily reinstated.

The sitting room overlooks the rear garden, has original cornicing and picture rails, a cast iron fireplace with tiled surrounds and newly fitted log-effect gas fire, built in cupboards and shelving on either side of the chimney breast.

The conservatory has a covered roof, is of a good size and has double doors out into the garden along with a side door on to the patio.

The first floor landing is very bright and airy due to two large windows, one on the half return on the staircase and the other on the landing itself. There are three bedrooms on this floor two are good sized doubles and the other a large single. Both the double rooms have views out over the garden, Penzance and Mounts Bay with the Principal bedroom being dual aspect and with an original cast iron fireplace with tiled surround and hearth. Also off the landing is the family bathroom which has a quadrant shower with overhead rain shower.

Further doors open to an airing cupboard and also to the staircase to the top floor. This was converted some years ago by a previous owner and provides a very large bedroom with a seating area and an en-suite bathroom. The stairs enter into the centre of the room which has a vaulted ceiling with exposed timbers, stripped pine flooring and a raised dais on the left where there is space for large bed. The en-suite bathroom has a free standing claw foot bath. The views from here are spectacular, Newlyn harbour comes in to view as does St Michaels Mount and the Lizard Peninsula.

The ANNEXE / STUDIO

This currently has a private entrance off the rear patio area, however, as previously mentioned could be re-opened to give access to the main house. You enter into a small kitchenette which has a Belfast sink, space for an under counter fridge, plumbing for a washing machine a small work top and shelving above. A step takes you in to the Studio itself. This is a bright room with stripped pine flooring and two windows. One overlooks the garden and the other is a wide double height north facing window making this a perfect room for an artist. There is a large shower room off the kitchenette.
