Description: - South Cliff Methodist Church is a substantial stone and slate detached property built in 1886. It underwent some additions and modernisation in 1916 and 1926 and has stained glass windows showing the influence of William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. The church occupies the whole area between Esplanade Gardens and the back lane for the houses fronting Esplanade Road and sits on approx a quarter of an acre site.
Internally, the church is accessed via quadruple glazed doors from Filey Road, leading into the vestibule. A staircase leads up to the mezzanine gallery level whilst timber doors lead into the stunning church hall. This area benefits from vaulted ceilings with exposed timber trusses together with numerous striking stained glass windows. The School Room lies to the east of the building with toilet facilities and a kitchen being noted off. An industrial sized gas fired boiler lies at lower ground level.
Planning: - Scarborough Borough Council adopted their Local Plan in 2017. The plan states that community facilies such as, amongst other things, places of worship, play an important role in facilitating social interaction and creating inclusive communities. These community facilities should be protected from redevelopment for non-community uses, such as housing.
The Plan goes on to say that it is recognised there are circumstances where development may be appropriate eg, lack of demand. Redevelopment proposals would be acceptabl, if it can be demonstrated that there is no reasonable prospect for re-use for community-based purposes, having being marketed for community use without success.
The church is not a Listed Building, but lies inside the town's South Cliff Conservation Area.
All enquiries with regards to planning, should be directed to Scarborough Council's Planning depertment.
Method Of Sale: - In light of the adopted planning policy, it appears the church is to be put up for sale for ALTERNATIVE COMMUNITY USE first. If no suitable buyers are found, the endor may consider selling for alternative uses such as residential redevelopment, hospitalitity etc.

Broadband availability and predicted speed
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area
