Introduction

Looking like a fairytale character cottage with its turret and aesthetic charm, Turret End Cottage is most likely to be the epitome of many people’s dream country home.

The current owners feel so much love for Turret End Cottage that they made it the venue of the reception for their country wedding and what an amazing location it provided with views from the shared secret garden over countryside to the Barfords and Adderbury.

It’s not only character this property offers though but great sized rooms so you will not be compromised on space, together with an enchanting, enclosed rear garden, double garaging and parking that often don’t come with a two bedroom property of this period making it an ideal home or weekend retreat with nearby Soho Farmhouse close by (approximately 6 miles).

Inside the cottage is a real treat with the abundance of character the property provides with some flagstone floors, beams, timber doors, window seat, a glass covered and illuminated well and that dreamy spiral stairs with arrow windows that rises through the turret.

Just made for entertaining with a good sized kitchen/breakfast room, a great sized sitting room with feature fireplace and French doors opening onto the rear garden making it ideal for summer barbeques. Upstairs there is a wonderful landing leading to two generous bedrooms and the family bathroom.

The property has its own enclosed private rear garden with a summer house/garden home office and in addition has use of a shared “secret garden” boasting commanding countryside views. If you have a motor vehicle you like to keep under cover, such as an electric car, classic car or motorcycles you will be pleased to read the property has a double stone carthouse/garage with first floor storage and additional communal parking at the rear.

Hempton is an attractive small village of mainly 18C and 19C ironstone cottages that forms part of the parish of Deddington, located approximately 1 mile east, that is a bustling, well served village putting many everyday amenities close by with a monthly farmers market, shops including; a popular delicatessen, Co-op, florist, tearoom, hairdressers etc. Pubs, restaurants, library, health centre, dentist, pharmacy, primary school and hotels.

Banbury is the nearest town, approximately 6.5 miles north, where a wide range of amenities can be found including supermarkets (M&S, Waitrose, Sainsburys, Tesco, Lidl and Aldi), shopping, restaurants and cafes, ten pin bowling, sports centre, gyms, and cinemas. Or you may choose to go onto the pretty Cotswold market town of Chipping Norton (approximately 9 miles). For commuters, Banbury has rail links to London, Oxford, Bicester, and Birmingham and is on J11 of the M40 motorway.

Sellers Perspective

So, what particularly attracted you to the property when you bought it?

The character, the unique features (well, shared secret garden, double garage, beams, thatch), the beautiful mature garden, the history 18th century (amongst one of the oldest cottages in Hempton), period property with modern features (oak kitchen), in the countryside but near to Oxford, Chipping Norton, Banbury and perfectly placed for commuting by rail and motorway etc.

How long have owned the property?

Since 29th August 2017

Briefly, can you tell me some of the things you love about living here?

a. Location is wonderful for dog walks, running, cycling or children. Beautiful public footpaths across gorgeous fields, canals, and stunning views to stunning places e.g. Great Tew, Swerford, and Heythrop.

b. In the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside but close to everything.

c. Nice neighbourhood, WhatsApp local group, good local schools, real community - people are extremely helpful (borrowing ladders, helping with the cats, dogs, and children) Hempton church is used for all sorts of things. In the parish of Deddington which has everything you need for young and old (from GP and dentist to local monthly market and restaurants)

d. I’ve always said, “there’s a lot of love in this house” and bringing up our family, I wanted them to know and feel that as they grow up. Turret End Cottage has this as soon as you walk in. We moved in in 2017, we got married in 2019 and had our wedding at home: the car port was the bar, the overall gravel yard was our dance floor and marquee, there were hay bales, pallet furniture, barrels, camper vans, bunting etc decorating the place and the shared land was our drinks reception. One week after we got married we got another dog Luna, so Kaiser could have a wife too, and in 2020 we had our son Ethan.

See our wedding video here.

Why are you moving?

Bigger place required - 2 kids (2 years 3 months and a 19 week old), 2 dogs, and 2 cats

What will you miss the most?

This was our first family home before we had kids and dogs.
We got married here and we love it and will always love it.
We will miss the house, but we have the memories.
