At the foot of the dam wall is Bryntail Mines which in the 19th century which transported the lead to Llanidloes and shipped down the River Severn. The mines closed in 1884 and the remains which still stand include the crushing house, all bins, roasting ovens, smithy and the mining managers office.
Llanidloes offers a wide range of cafes, shops, amenities and facilities together with recreational facilities - ie - sailing and fishing on the reservoir, walking and cycling in the Hafren Forest nearby. The coastal university town of Aberystwyth is some 36 miles away and with access to the Snowdonia National Park via Machynlleth and Aberdyfi.
PLANNING PERMISSION
The original planning permsion granted on the 8th May 2007 was for 'Siting of 3 holiday chalets, formation of vehicular access and installation of a septic tank at Ty Coed, Y Fan, Llanidloes' (Application No M2007 0025).
Full planning permission was further granted on the 4th November 2021 for the 'Siting of 17 holiday accommodation units; alterations and changes of use to existing barn to provide a storage and laundry facility; installation of a treatment plant and all associated works at Ty Coed, Bryntail Lead Mine Road, Crowlwm, Y Fan, Llanidloes' (Application No 21/1231/FUL. Copies of the planning permissions and plans are available from the agents office. A layout plan is attached to the particulars. A copy of the proposed chalet accommodation is also attached to the particulars. Potential purchasers can make their own alterations and enquiries with the local planning authority (Powys County Council) if they wish to alter the plans, subject to approvals etc. We understand that there was a previous application that lapsed which was for a rural dwelling, interested parties to make their own enquiries to see if this would be possible and again subject to pursuing the necessary approvals and consents.
