Tucked away on a tranquil, private cul-de-sac, the house at Stanborough Mews offers space, sophistication and a gentle pace of life, all in an exceptionally convenient setting while relaxing in the hot tub in the garden of her very private home, the owner of the house at Stanborough Mews can still recall the very first time she saw the house 10 years ago. “I remember thinking what a very quiet place it was,” she muses. “It was a lovely cul-de-sac of mew-style houses, and it was tucked away from the main road – at the same time it was in an excellent location for reaching everything we you needed. I could see it would be a great place to bring up children.” The house itself, which was just eight years old at the time, was also very appealing. “I really liked the three-storey design and when I walked inside it was in such good condition that it felt like a show home,” she adds.
EASY LIVING
Over the years since then, the owners have not only upgraded it further, but they have also made certain changes to the layout, ensuring it offers comfortable and easy living, ideal for a modern family. “We opened up the downstairs accommodation, between the kitchen and drawing room and added new doors on to the garden,” she explains. “This has given it a much lighter and more open-plan feel and improved the flow throughout the whole of the ground floor.” The new kitchen, with its white, high-gloss units and glass cabinets, brings style as well as practicality and is complemented by the owners’ use of Hillarys blinds.
FLEXIBLE SPACE
The ground floor of the property encompasses room for everyone to gather together or to indulge in their individual pursuits. There is now ample space for family relaxation, food preparation and storage and dining, as well as entertaining. “It has worked really well for us. We have brought up two older children and two younger children here and the layout and space both have been ideal.” In addition to the main ground-floor accommodation, there is also an office that could have a range of possible uses. Depending on the requirements of the the next owners, this could also be a playroom, games room or snug. There is also a downstairs cloakroom and understairs cupboard.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
The first floor of the house includes the master bedroom, which enjoys the luxury of an en suite bathroom and beautiful built-in wardrobes. “This is a large room, with a king-size bed and still plenty of space,” she says. There are two more bedrooms at this level, as well as the family bathroom. “There is such a lot of room at this house that in the past one of the bedrooms at this level has doubled as a playroom,” she continues. On the top floor of the property there are two more double bedrooms, as well as a shower room. “We were able to have the older children on the top floor and the younger ones in the middle, which worked incredibly well.”
FUTURE POSSIBILITIES
There is great potential for further enhancing the property, the owner suggests. “There is planning permission to extend the house, making it larger and going into the garage,” she says. “This could give someone even more downstairs space if they needed it, or it could be used to create a self-contained annexe for a relative perhaps. We currently use the garage for storage as we have so much parking space on the drive. At times, we have parked up to three vans and three cars out there.” The square between the garage and the house is where they currently have the hot tub. “We have really enjoyed the outside space we have at this house,” she admits. “It feels so secluded when you are sitting out at the back.”
HAPPY TIMES
The owners have enjoyed being part of the friendly local community, where children play out and an annual street party is held. Equally, they are just a 10-minute walk from the centre of town, and have easy access to the train station, bus routes and motorways. “This has been a great place to live for so many reasons,” she agrees. “We love the area, the road and the house. The light, the space and the layout are all perfect. I really do feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to live here.”
SETTING THE SCENE
To the front of the house there is a very large driveway with space for up to six cars to park. There is also a garage, which is currently used for storage but could be used for parking or for another use altogether. The ground-floor living space opens easily on to the rear garden, which is very private and offers ample space for children to play and outdoor relaxation.
