APPEALING LOUGHTON
Built in the 1980s, the property is one of just 15 individual houses on the lane. Moving to Loughton itself was something of a happy accident, “My husband, Richie, and I were keen to move out of London, but needed to be on a good train line for commuting whilst being near good schools as we knew we wanted children once settled. The amount of green space, closeness to the city centre, lakes, it was a no-brainer, we fell in love with Loughton. We had no idea that a place like this existed. It had easy access to everything that the city centre of Milton Keynes has to offer and yet it was so peaceful and private at the same time.”
INCREDIBLE SPACE
The move up to the Whitworth Lane house, which looks out towards an equestrian centre, really was the icing on the cake. The former owner had been an interior designer and the property was beautifully finished throughout. “It has this wonderful sense of space, inside and out,” Beena explains. “Being one of six children, and we often have sizeable family gatherings here, which the house lends itself to so comfortably. At Christmas we had over 20 people sat down to dinner and stay the whole weekend. It is a very inviting, happy and flexible house, with so much space that can be used in all sorts of different ways.”
ENTERTAINING AT HOME
Visitors enter via the porch and generous reception hall. To the left is the long drawing room, which spans the entire depth of the property and has French double doors that open on to the garden. There is also a sizeable double office, generous dining room/ snug and capacious conservatory which currently is used as a gym and games room, and which opens on to the garden. “This whole area has been wonderful for entertaining, as people can flow from one space to another so easily,” she says. “The island in the kitchen, is ideal for family meals as well as gathering around at parties. Also downstairs is a utility room and a ground floor cloakroom.
SUNDAY MORNINGS
The first floor of the house is just as impressive. Here, the master suite is very much the jewel in the crown. “It is absolutely enormous – when we first saw it, we couldn’t believe it,” the owner remembers. “It overlooks the garden to the back and has doors on to a Juliet balcony to the front. We have a soft seating area that faces the balcony, so that we can enjoy the views over the fields, where we sit of a Sunday morning with the papers and a well-earned cup of coffee. The room, which has a vaulted ceiling, also has a dressing room and large en suite bathroom. There are four other bedrooms, as well as a family shower room and a family bathroom. “Each of our two children has been able to have their own bedroom and a separate study rooms, which has worked very well for us”. These study rooms serve as guest bedrooms when we have friends and family to stay overnight.
PERFECT PLACE
The beautiful garden at the Whitworth Lane house has been greatly enjoyed by the family in the summer months. They have also loved spending time in nearby parks and by the lakes. “Our son walks to football matches and gigs at the Milton Keynes Bowl which is only a 15 minute walk past the delightful “Teardrop Lakes”, and we still really appreciate being so close to the station and with access to London in as little as 35 minutes,” she says. “Our son attended the grammar school in Aylesbury using the school bus, from the railway station, and our daughter attended Denbigh School as the house falls within the catchment area of this excellent school..” Now downsizing, she admits they will miss the space they have enjoyed. “The house itself is beautiful, but still holds potential for further extension or change, should that suit new owners,” she adds. “Loughton speaks for itself. We believe it to be the best area in Milton Keynes.”
