What a location and what a hotel! Now known as the Castle Keep, the present owners certainly know how to take full advantage of its fabulous position, located adjacent to Criccieth’s 13th century castle whilst just a short walk from the seafront with dramatic sea views thrown in for good measure. The Castle Keep has been a hotel for many years and still is essentially but is being adapted to suit current trends, making for a refreshing change. There are 15 guest bedrooms located on the first and second floors (an explanation of which will follow) plus extensive rooms typical of a larger hotel on the ground floor comprising a sizeable functions room, public bar, commercial kitchens and what was formerly a restaurant area now currently operating as an antiques/curios shop. In addition is an extensive and certainly useable cellar, a sun terrace garden, a rooftop sun terrace and spacious courtyard to the rear offering off road parking.
In terms of guest accommodation, there are currently two new self-contained holiday lets located on the lower ground floor and second floor respectively, both exceptionally well-appointed with an appealing marine theme whilst two further themed family suites have been created on the first floor in addition to numerous other guest rooms. These two themed suites are both unique, one sporting a regal Henry VIII motif, the other catering for the lover of books – offering charm, character and quirkiness! The large function room and public bar offer something more traditional whilst the extensive facilities lend themselves to recreating a thriving upmarket seaside restaurant/venue which, with some imagination and flair could become a real highlight in this corner of North Wales.
The hotel as a whole also offers much scope to be developed further, with potential to convert other sections into additional holiday let accommodation and/or permanent accommodation – subject to planning consents and approvals. With Criccieth being such a beautiful destination, It’s fair to say that Castle Keep offers some exciting opportunities. The picturesque seaside town of Criccieth is a noteworthy destination, being situated on the southern coastline of the beautiful Llyn Peninsula, visitors revelling in the splendid all-encompassing scenery with numerous beaches and unspoilt countryside with the backdrop of the Eryri mountain range never far from sight. The Llyn Peninsula has without doubt some of the best scenery Wales has to offer, much of the coastline recognised as AONB's (Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Within Criccieth there’s a good range of amenities, fine pubs and restaurants, a post office and golf course. Porthmadog and Pwllheli, both of which have excellent marina facilities and businesses associated with the boating fraternity can easily be reached by the main A497 and offer a good range of shops, services, schools and other services so that all your daily needs and requirements are well catered for.
