In 2018, Folkestone & Hythe District Council and the Nuclear De-commissioning Authority (NDA) co-funded a masterplan to bring forward the remaining six hectares of council-owned employment land at Mountfield Road Industrial Estate, New Romney with the aim of creating new jobs and diversifying the local economy to mitigate the loss of some 1000 jobs from the current and proposed closure of the Dungeness Power Stations. The masterplan provided options for bringing forward the land, including the development of a business hub to initiate the scheme. Since then, stage 1 of the project, comprising the construction of the Romney Marsh Business Hub, has commenced following the Council entering into a joint venture with EKSDC to bring this forward with completion in early 2022.

Following the award of a £3.5 million Getting Building Fund grant in summer 2020, stage 2 of the development has progressed. The construction of a new roadway and provision of infrastructure on the remaining 10.7 acres of land has recently commenced and has a scheduled completion by April 2024.

The government announced a £900 million Getting Building Fund to deliver jobs, skills and infrastructure across the country with £3.5 million granted for this project. This investment is being targeted in areas facing the biggest economic challenges as a result of the pandemic. It is supporting the delivery of shovel-ready infrastructure projects, agreed with mayors and Local Enterprise Partnerships to boost economic growth, and fuel local recovery and jobs with 480 jobs to be created over the next 10 years.

Due to this fund, all offers will need to specify the following details:

o Confirmation of any conditions with regard to the offer
