Location
Southend-on-Sea is one of the principal commercial centres in Essex and is situated approximately 40 miles east of London on the northern bank of the Thames Estuary. The Town has long been a favourite seaside resort, largely due to its close proximity to London. Although it is most famous for its pleasure pier, seven mile coastline and award winning beaches, the town has a range of attractions on offer including the annual illuminations, the torchlight carnival procession, Adventure Island and the Golden Mile of arcades. Due to the expansion of the South East Essex College and the arrival of the University of Essex, the town also boasts a strong student population and a thriving ’night time’ economy.
The Palace
Dating back to 1904, The Palace is one of the last great Edwardian hotels to be built. Located on the northern side of Pier Hill it forms an integral part of the seafront townscape, is locally listed and has an historic and visual relationship with the pier. The Palace is an iconic building and has a dominating presence due to its height and elevated position, the combination of which provides uninterrupted views across The Thames Estuary and the greater Southend area. Following the recent completion of a multi-million pound refurbishment scheme the building has now returned to its former splendour providing a 137 bedroom. Park Inn' hotel with restaurant, leisure and conferencing facilities, a state of the art 25,000 sq ft casino, which is operated by Rank's G Casino, along with 16 stunning roof-top apartments.

Broadband availability and predicted speed
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
