Description
A beautifully decorated detached period cottage set back from the village lane. It dates back to the late 19th century, and the cottage retains period features whilst having the benefit of not being listed. Character features include exposed beams, window seats and ledge and brace doors. These blend with modern improvements, including oak laminate flooring, double-glazed windows with internal blinds and bathroom fittings.
The ground floor
A traditionally built oak-framed storm porch shelters the front door. Opening into an entrance hall with coats cupboard and internal stable door. Leading into the main reception room, which has the benefit of exposed beams, an open fireplace with timber mantel and alcove shelves built into the walls. The spacious dining room adjoins the reception, offering a feel of open plan living. The romantic window seats offer a delightful view of the garden. The contemporary kitchen is fitted with Shaker-style units and a large breakfast bar/island, all with a composite worktop and integrated sink and draining board. Appliances include a double oven with a halogen hob and extractor fan. There is also an integrated wine fridge and dishwasher and space for a large fridge freezer. Off from the kitchen is the utility room with space for a washing machine and pantry. The ground floor also benefits from a cloakroom.
The first floor
Open timber stairs lead from the dining room to the first-floor landing, which also provides access to the boarded loft space. The master bedroom, again with an exposed beam and window seat, currently displays a super-king-sized bed. The second double bedroom is situated at the other end of the landing. They share the central family bathroom, with a rain head shower over a bath and with white storage units.
Outside
The view from the lane over the garden gate shows a beautiful lavender-edged gravel path leading to the front porch. The English cottage garden is wonderfully maintained, south-facing and provides the perfect setting for country living. Rose-covered arches lead to the lawned areas and flower borders, which have been carefully laid out with mature shrubs and herbaceous planting. The stable door from the kitchen leads out to a gravelled seating area, great for al-fresco dining. A path to the side of the house leads to an outbuilding which houses the boiler and provides garden storage and a log store. The garden is enclosed by hedges and fencing, including a distinctive Cotswold stone slab ‘fence’ adjacent to the lane, which is Grade ll listed. The property is approached via a gravelled drive with parking for multiple cars. It also provides access to the oil tank and the timber shed, which has been fitted with electricity.
Location
14 The Derry is situated on the edge of the village, a thriving community with a good primary school, post office, community run shop, parish church, a public house and garage. There are an inordinate number of societies in the village. The village is self-sufficient in many ways but Cirencester and Swindon, the two major towns in the area, are both within easy motoring distance and provide comprehensive but differing shopping, commercial and recreational amenities.
The village is also situated in the Cotswold Water Park providing water sports, walking, cycling, riding and golf opportunities. The Thames Path passes through the village. There are also leisure centres in Cirencester and Cricklade.
Access to London is particularly easy via the M4 (J15/A419 OR J6/B4696) or by train from Kemble, or from Swindon, where trains reach Paddington in approximately 55 minutes.
Square Footage: 922 sq ft
Directions
From Cirencester take the A419 Swindon Road and turn at the Spine Road junction as for the Water Park and Ashton Keynes. After about 2 miles turn left onto the B4696 towards Wootton Bassett. Continue for approximately one mile and then turn left sign posted The Derry. No 14 is the second driveway on the left.
Additional Info
Services - Mains water, electricity and drainage. Oil-fired boiler.
The cottage is not listed but the stone flank fence adjacent to the road is Grade ll Listed.

OnTheMarket may have applied supplementary data to this property listing, including:
Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on January 14, 2022
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on January 14, 2022
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on July 10, 2023 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
