Features and description

The Wylye valley around Wylye Wood is characterised by open rolling pasture and woodland. Wylye Wood provides a haven for wildlife near to the A36: including roe deer and badgers and there is an interesting mix of coniferous and broadleaf tree types including some particularly fine beech and oak specimens. An open clearing within the wood provides further diversity of habitat amongst dense ferns for ground-nesting birds and small mammals. Set in parkland with open meadows and specimen trees while inside bluebells are widespread on the woodland floor.

The nearby landscape also features remnants of much earlier conflict. The Iron Age hill fort Battlesbury Camp dominates nearby and the world heritage phenomenon of Stonehenge is only a short drive away.

The natural beauty of the area and its accessibility have given rise to a flourishing tourism economy.

Access: There is a track from Five Ash Lane, through a locked gate, across a meadow - see plan - where there is a right of way for Wylye Wood at all times and for all purposes, with and without vehicles.

Viewing: You are welcome to visit this wood by yourself, but please ensure that you have a copy of these sales details with you - many of our woodlands do not have mobile phone reception or internet access so we recommend either printing the details or downloading them to your phone or tablet. Please take care when viewing as the great outdoors can contain unexpected hazards and woodlands are no exception.

Directions: Wylye Wood at Sutton Veny is a little over a mile south of Warminster.

Viewing is by appointment only. The access gate is locked and by phoning Ben on[use Contact Agent Button] we can arrange for it to be opened for you.
