Description
Inchmoan Island is around a mile long and extends to just under 113 acres. Arguably the most well known Island in the iconic Loch Lomond cluster. The name itself stems from its use by the Luss people as a source of peat fuel for the village fires.
Inchmoan Island, whilst not occupied, does have a ruined two storey, former hunting lodge on the western peninsula. There are no services connected to this property and it is not currently habitable. The Island is perhaps best known for its 350m of sandy beaches With beautiful stretches of white shingle beach (the longest of any of the Loch Lomond islands) on either side, on a sunny day there is always a perfect sheltered spot for a picnic.
Trees and plant life on Inchmoan include Scots pine, pear, blueberry, birch, alder, bog myrtle, gorse and rhododendrons.
This sale represents a very special opportunity to acquire a private island, steeped in history, within one of Europe’s most renowned and beautiful expanses of water.
Location
Inchmoan Island sits within majestic Loch Lomond – Scotland’s largest freshwater loch. It is one of a group situated just south of Luss,.
Loch Lomond lies in the heart of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and extends to 24 miles in length. It is home to 22 islands and 27 islets. The loch and the surrounding National Park offer everything an outdoor enthusiast could wish for, including boating, wake-boarding, sailing, mountain biking, kayaking, wildlife spotting and angling. In addition, there is superb hill walking in the area. Inchmoan is surrounded by a backdrop of spectacular mountain ranges including Ben Lomond to the north as well as the Arrochar Alps to the west and north. These include four Munros and six Corbetts, the best known of which is the Cobbler.
The village of Luss is situated a short distance away on the western shores of Loch Lomond. The pretty conservation village provides local services including shops, a pub, restaurants, hotels, church, primary school and pier. As well as loch cruises, the pier offers waterbus services linking Balloch, Inchcailloch, Balmaha and Rowardennan. The towns of Alexandria and Helensburgh are both within a 15 minute drive from Luss and provide more extensive services.
