Watching the lambs play in the fields and the kites glide in the sky, the owners of the Beeches think back over the 40 years they have spent at their Sherington home and remember the many happy times. “We had two boys when we moved here and they had a simply idyllic childhood,” one of them recalls. She continues: “I think for us, the views have been most important – from here we look right out across the countryside as far as the snow dome and theatre in Milton Keynes in the distance. This has been such a lovely place to live.”

ENCHANTING SETTING
Set in one-third of an acre and built approximately 64 years ago, the Beeches is such a magical home that it has only ever had two sets of owners. “We had driven past it and it caught our eye. Then, when we came to view it, we climbed the steps and were amazed by the incredible views from its elevated position. When we entered we realised the outlook from inside was also wonderful.” When the couple bought the property, it was a three-bedroom, single-storey home. Since then they have completely transformed it. Today, there are an additional two bedrooms on an upper level, plus another bathroom and a much larger sitting room. “We extended the living space and added a porch, double garage and single garage, as well as a lovely summerhouse at the back of the garden,” she explains.

FLEXIBLE HOME
The entire house has been redecorated and upgraded, with new bathrooms and two replacement kitchens, over the years. “Today we enter via the porch and then the hall,” she says. “To the left, we have a gorgeous, downstairs bedroom, which looks out over the countryside and could be a great option for an elderly relative when they come to stay.” There is a family shower room, with a steam shower, and two additional rooms that could also be used as bedrooms if required. These are currently arranged as a television room or snug and a study, however, by the current owners. But, she says: “The accommodation at this house is incredibly flexible – these additional rooms could also be ideal for teenagers or as playrooms.”

SCENIC OUTLOOK
The sitting room and the kitchen dining room both offer generous space. “The sitting room is very beautiful, with picturesque views to the front and side. The kitchen, which is in painted country cream, with brown granite work surfaces, has a large island and ample space for a table to seat up to eight people.” A door from the kitchen opens on to the garden. “If we were staying, I think we would add French windows to the snug.”

LOOKING AHEAD
The master bedroom, which features fitted wardrobes and an en suite bathroom, is situated on the first floor of the house. Across the landing from this is another bedroom, also with built-in storage. “This room is also a good size,” she adds. “We have applied for planning permission to convert the double garage into additional accommodation and join that on to the house. This is something new owners may wish to look into. There is so much space here for further extension (subject to the relevant planning permissions) if someone requires it.”

IDEAL POSITION
Both the house and the garden are ideal for anyone who enjoys entertaining. “The summerhouse has a deck where it is nice to have a barbecue or a drink as you take in the views.” Those who enjoy country walks can just set off straight from home and all the amenities of Newport Pagnell, Olney and Woburn Sands are within easy reach. “We are also well placed for reaching the M1 motorway – and Milton Keyes, with everything it offers, is just 12 minutes away,” she adds. “There is a great community spirit here. We enjoy our privacy but it is nice to be part of the village.” The owners will miss the astounding setting of the Beeches but agree it is now time to move on. “This place has such great potential. Now it is time for someone else to enjoy it.”
