Property description & features

  • Tenure: Freehold
A superb five bedroomed detached family home on the outskirts of Buckland Newton with a delightful garden, tennis court and car port with studio/office above.

THE PROPERTY
Tucked away down a single track lane on the edge of the most picturesque village of Buckland Newton, first glimpses of Little Rew are most impressive with its incredibly pretty façade constructed of brick render under a pitched slate roof.
Dating back to the 1850's this wonderful property, which is not listed, has been very cleverly extended over the years and is now a fantastic family home with very well-presented and flexible accommodation to suit most families' needs.
On first entering the property via the side entrance there is a real sense of charm, space and light, with a hall that leads into a superb newly fitted family kitchen with attractive stripped wooden flooring and incorporating a number of wall and base units, and an Aga. There is plenty of room for a large kitchen/dining table and double doors leading out to the paved terrace and garden, ideal for al fresco dining.
Alongside the kitchen is a perfect sized snug room with a wood burning stove and views over the garden. Also on the ground floor is a very good-sized study, utility room, and a lovely dining room. The real surprise however is the magnificent sitting room which is perfectly proportioned, with a wood burning stove and views on each side over the gardens and grounds.
The accommodation is very well-presented and yet totally untainted by inappropriate modernisation.
The bedrooms are situated on the first floor with five beautiful bedrooms including a large principal bedroom with an en suite bathroom. There is also a family bathroom.
The gardens and grounds are an absolute delight and perfectly surround the house with a large lawned area and a number of specimen trees with well-stocked borders. The garden is an absolute utopia for children and animals and at one end has an established vegetable garden and potting shed. To the rear of the property is a tennis court and wooden tennis pavilion, ideal for sipping Pimms whilst watching the tennis on a nice summer's day.
Worth a special mention is the wooden car port, a substantial building with a two bay car port and a large studio/office above which would also make a superb games room.
All in all, this is a truly wonderful family home in an idyllic yet very convenient location.

LOCATION
The property lies just under a mile from the centre of Buckland Newton, is a most popular and vibrant village at the head of the sought after Piddle Valley and surrounded by lovely unspoilt countryside, much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). There are very good local services, a thriving village store, primary school, church, village hall and playing fields, and The Gaggle of Geese public house.
Beyond this it is an easy drive south down the valley to the county town of Dorchester which has an excellent range of facilities. Of particular note is the Conran-designed development at Brewery Square with its cinema, bars, restaurants and leading shops. There is a Waitrose and Tesco for everyday shopping, as well as the Dorset County Hospital.
Up the valley in the other direction is the Abbey town of Sherborne. Both towns have mainline railway stations with a fast regular service to London Waterloo.
From Buckland Newton it is an easy drive down onto the A35 which leads the west country east across to Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton, and via the M27 and M3 on up to London.
