Description
Barn Cottage is a contemporary home built in 2015, and offers modern accommodation in a charming and historic village close to excellent walking and riding country. The house enjoys a delightful position close to the village church, with stunning views to the rear over open countryside and grazing land used for livestock. The setting is quiet and peaceful.
The house has been built to a high standard and is immaculately presented, with elegant, neutrally decorated rooms flooded with natural light by large windows and underfloor heating. Natural elements throughout, like wood floors and doors, echo the countryside setting, and the kitchen and bathrooms are modern and well appointed. It’s a contemporary home in a semi-rural location.
The house offers about 1700 sq ft of space over two floors, comprising an inviting double height entrance hall with feature staircase, leading to a sitting room, study and open plan kitchen and dining room spanning the back of the house. There is also a utility room for laundry machines and a cloakroom with WC. Upstairs the principal bedroom overlooks the paddock to the rear and has built-in storage and an en suite shower room, while the remaining bedrooms – all double size with fitted storage – share a family bathroom.
Outside
The house is approached over a block-paved driveway, shared with one neighbour, which leads to a private gravel parking area in front of the attached double car port. The gardens wrap around the south side of the house to the rear, where the rear boundary is well enclosed to the sides affording good privacy, and the area bordering the paddock to the rear post and railed so as not to obstruct the view. The garden is mostly lawned with a number of flowerbeds and shrubs providing colour, and there is a terrace adjoining the house for garden furniture.
Location
Bishopstone is an unspoilt village which lies at the foot of the Lambourn Downs, overlooking the Vale of the White Horse. As the name implies the history of the village dates back to when the village was occupied by a former monastery, there are still areas owned by the Church. The village is now made up of quaint houses and cottages which stand around a central millpond. The active community supports a primary school, village hall and an ancient Norman church. There is also a highly regarded pub, The Royal Oak, and an organic farm shop. The village has the character of a traditional English village and is in both a conservation area and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
In addition to the popular primary school there are a good selection of other schools in the area including Pinewood Preparatory School.
Shrivenham is located about four miles away and offers a range of everyday stores, including two supermarkets, a chemist, a florist, a popular artisan delicatessen and café, a doctor’s surgery as well as public houses and restaurants. The nearby market towns of Faringdon, Wantage and Marlborough are all within 12 miles and provide an excellent selection of independent and high street shops as well as leading supermarkets. Communications are excellent with Swindon offering first class transport links to London and the West, via both the M4 and rail services.
The Downs and the ancient Ridgeway paths provide wonderful walks. There are also cycling and riding routes with spectacular views across the Vale of the White Horse and rolling countryside on the Wessex Downs.

Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on June 25, 2024
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on June 25, 2024
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on August 5, 2015 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
