Rooms

The Story
Summer days having lunch under the trees and afternoons spent splashing in the pool – Somewhere in Time has been a truly magical lifestyle home. It was 32 years ago now that the current owner moved into the unique, detached house and since then it has been her dream home. “I loved both the house and the garden when I first visited,” she recalls. “The house was a very good size, with lots of rooms and potential. The garden was very large and the indoor swimming pool was fantastic as I had two boys. We went on to have so many happy times here. The boys would bring their friends over to swim and there were lots of wonderful parties.” She adds: “On one special occasion we hosted a party with a guitarist playing live music.”

OUTSTANDING SPACE
Believed to date back to the late 1960s, Somewhere in Time offers very generous, flexible living. “I have made many changes to the house over the years,” she says. “I removed a couple of walls to make some rooms – including the dining room – larger. I also added the conservatory, installed a new kitchen and had most of the bathrooms replaced.” The house originally had four bedrooms but in 2003, extension work was carried out above the garage. This transformed the property into a six-bedroom, five-bathroom home. “Four of the bedrooms now have en suite shower or bathrooms, which makes this a wonderful home for welcoming overnight guests.”

A JEWEL IN THE CROWN
Set on Kennel Ride, Somewhere in Time was built on land that would have originally been part of the Crown Estate. Today its 0.6-acre plot retains its wooded feel and the property, which is set back behind a gated driveway, enjoys exceptional privacy. The layout of the house offers magnificent flexibility, with rooms that can have a variety of uses, depending on requirements. The impressive double front door opens into a splendid reception hall, which in turn flows into the dining room, overlooking the garden. Steps from here lead down into the impressive sitting room: a gorgeous, capacious, double-aspect space. This has a bay window at one end and garden doors at the other. “There is an open fire in here which makes it very cosy in winter, despite its size,” she observes. “This has been a lovely room for family living and for entertaining at Christmas – one year we had a violinist playing in here at a party.”

INDOOR-OUTDOOR LIVING
The dining room also opens into the long kitchen, with its abundance of storage space and Aga. The kitchen flows seamlessly into the bright conservatory, which is currently arranged for both dining and relaxation. “The conservatory is a lovely place to spend time – you can sit in there, whatever the weather, and feel like you are out in the garden,” she observes. Beyond the kitchen are a rear lobby, ground-floor shower room and utility room. Then there is a generous family or cinema room, where more glass doors can be thrown open on summer days. “We have always tended to spend most of our time in this part of the house, living between the conservatory, kitchen, family room and garden,” she observes.

LEAFY VIEWS
The six bedrooms are situated on the first floor, with one is currently set up as an office. Two of the bedrooms are especially generous and either could be the master bedroom. Each of these has a large en suite bathroom, with a shower as well as a bath, and each has doors that open on to a balcony, offering leafy views out over the garden. Another bedroom benefits from an en suite bathroom, while bedroom four enjoys an en suite shower room. There is also a separate cloakroom upstairs. “Again, all this very versatile space has just been fantastic over the years,” she adds.

A SPECIAL PLACE
The beautiful garden has also given her immense pleasure. A passionate gardener, she has landscaped it to create different pockets of interest and places to relax and entertain. “I have really enjoyed spending time out in the garden and it was wonderful when the boys were growing up.” Doors from the indoor pool can be pulled back on sunny days and there is a summer house that has made a superb office. The owner has also enjoyed her proximity to the many green open spaces of the area. “We have been able to stroll over to the racecourse and, of course, Windsor Great Park is close by,” she says. “This is a lovely area and yet we can also walk to the train station and into Ascot.” Now relocating, she agrees she will miss everything about her wonderful home. “It has been a very special place to live and I have been very happy here,” she adds.

SETTING THE SCENE
Somewhere in Time is set in glorious, leafy grounds, with exquisite gardens, extending to 0.6 acres. There is a gated driveway and triple garage with ample space for several cars to park. The gardens, which feature an array of trees and other plants, have been designed with different areas for entertaining, relaxing and children to play out. There is an indoor swimming pool within the grounds, plus a summerhouse.
