Torduff House is a beautifully designed Arts and Crafts style home by renowned architect Rowand Anderson, featuring elegant living spaces, and a generous south-facing garden

Description

Torduff House is located at 2 Barnshot Road in the desirable Colinton area of Edinburgh. The property dates back to 1879 and was designed by Rowand Anderson, one of Scotland’s most respected architects. Renowned for some of Edinburgh’s most notable landmarks, including Edinburgh University’s McEwan Hall and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

Anderson initially built Torduff House as a home for himself and his wife. Many period features are exhibited, including panelled walls and a wonderful balustraded balcony on the top floor.

A contemporary open plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is well-designed with a stylish tiled floor, Aga, and Siemens cooker and gas hob. A shallow step leads down to the dining area which has an integrated speaker system, lighting by David Brown and French doors opening to a generous decked area making this an ideal space for entertaining. There is also discreet access to the utility area, one of the garages, a cloakroom and an external door.

On the south side of the house, the drawing room features an attractive fireplace with stone surround and a bay window with a door opening onto the garden. An adjoining door leads from the sitting room to the library. A good-sized family room, and a cloak room complete the ground floor accommodation.

From the central hall, which boasts a fine parquet floor, an elegant staircase with wrought iron balusters and a mahogany handrail leads up to the first floor. The principal bedroom has an adjoining dressing room and a lovely bay window overlooking the garden. There are two other bedrooms on this floor and a good-sized bathroom with a separate shower. A staircase leads up to the second floor, where there is a wonderful view from the landing to the north. This floor includes a stylish bathroom and two bedrooms, one with a delightful balcony offering southerly views.

Outside, the generous south-facing garden has a gravel path leading down to the far end of the garden, screened by a line of mature trees. To the west of the house is the raised decked dining area. The driveway, to the north of the building, is accessed via a double gateway from Woodhall Road, whilst a smaller pavement gateway lies on the east side from Barnshot Road, opening onto a charming pathway and stone steps to the impressive front door. There are 2 garages and a number of outdoor stores.
