Jon-Paul Brampton presents.........Rothschild-style cottage located in the tranquil village of Mentmore in Buckinghamshire.
The property
This impressive Victorian home is situated in the peaceful and picturesque Buckinghamshire village of Mentmore. Situated just moments from the Village Green, this home exudes period charm and is heavily influenced by the Rothschild's family architecture that is so prevalent in the area.
Manicured box-hedging line the circumference of the incredibly pretty front garden, making for a charming welcome to this lovingly cared for family home. The space here is generous creating a private and secure frontage to this characterful property. On entering the home there is a an entrance hall with adjacent under stair cupboard for shoes and coats. A study/dining room is situated to the front with pretty views over the front garden. To the opposing flank there is a farmhouse style kitchen with it's Rayburn cooker taking centre stage. There is lots of storage here, space for a small table and chairs, and views over the rear garden.
The living room really is the heart of this home with its original stripped wood flooring and wood burning stove presenting a cosy and charming atmosphere, whether its to while away the winters months in front of the fire, or take in the leafy outlook to the rear. A sympathetically designed rear extension extends the living space by creating either additional living space or the potential to be used as an independent reception room or perhaps dining room. An abundance of glazing, large skylight and patio doors make this a bright room with tremendous views to the rear. The backdrop to this home is particularly mature and green and even the neighbouring former school house provides a truly charming outlook.
Upstairs there are two balanced bedrooms, with the main bedroom benefitting from built in wardrobes and stunning views over the Buckinghamshire countryside to the rear. The family bathroom is generous in size and comfortable houses a shower over bath, handbasin, WC and storage.
The rear garden is a great size, with a patio immediately to the rear of the house, making for a fantastic place to BBQ or entertain. A good size lawn area is perfect for play, with mature borders providing privacy and a wonderful backdrop.
All in all a superb home, but please don't just take my word for it! Please browse the photos, watch the video tour and then if you think this could be the home for you please get in touch to arrange a viewing.
The location
Mentmore is a charming village in the Aylesbury Vale district of Buckinghamshire within the Parish of Mentmore, Crafton & Ledburn. Noted in the Domesday Book, the village has historic roots back to the time of Edward the Confessor who had a hunting lodge close to the where the infamous Mentmore Towers now stands. Today we see a quintessential English village, built and heavily influenced by the Rothschilds family who bought the Estate in the mid-1800s.
The Village Green takes centre stage, offering a tree-lined open space for all to enjoy. A playground caters for the children, whilst the much lauded independent and community owned public house 'The Stag' more than caters for the adults. There is a village hall which is often used by residents for community activities like table-tennis, watercolour painting and cinema nights. The village also plays host to two major events each year - the Mentmore Arts Festival and the Fete - all are welcomed from the community to volunteer and participate. This really is a charming place to live.
In terms of schooling, the villages of Wing, Cheddington, Long Marston and Wingrave, can all be reached within a five-ten minute drive and offer primary age schooling. For secondary schooling there is The Cottesloe School in Wing, or the Grammar Schools of Aylesbury.
Train services can be found at Cheddington providing a 40 minute journey-time into London Euston. By road, the A41, and A5 are both close, with access to the M1 and M25 motorways. Luton Airport can be reached within 30 minutes or so by car.
