A quintessential thatched cottage with a modern extension offering the perfect blend of period charm and modern living. If required, the flexible layout easily accommodates multi-generational living.

Entering through the powered gates, the expansive gardens and the grandeur of this beautiful home are revealed. Upon stepping into the glazed link that connects the old and new parts of the property, steps lead up to the family room, which is flooded with light through south-facing bifold doors that open onto the gardens. The vaulted ceiling adds architectural drama and interest to this spacious room, making it ideal for large family gatherings or entertaining.

The accommodation continues with a hallway that leads to a study/bedroom four and the principal bedroom, which features doors to the garden, a walk-in wardrobe, and a luxurious, contemporary en suite with a freestanding bath and separate shower. The en suite has previously served both the principal and fourth bedrooms and could easily be reinstated if desired.

In the thatched part of the property lies the heart of the home: a farmhouse kitchen and breakfast room. An Aga set in an inglenook fireplace provides warmth, while the high-specification John Lewis kitchen with granite and marble work surfaces ensures the satisfaction of even the keenest cooks. There is ample space for a breakfast table to enjoy meals and appreciate the original features, including a bread oven, exposed beams, and a bressummer over the fireplace. Adjacent to the kitchen is a sitting room, also rich with original features, a study, and a cloakroom. Bedrooms two and three are accessed via their own staircases, each with its own shower room, offering convenience and privacy.

The gardens are particularly noteworthy, providing a sense of peace and calm as the powered gates close off the outside world. Mature hedging and trees offer privacy and a lush backdrop. Patios provide ideal spots for relaxation, entertaining, or outdoor dining, while large lawns can be enjoyed by both children and adults. A garden store/workshop offers excellent storage and could be converted into a hobby room or detached office if needed. A large gravel drive leads to ample parking, turning space, and a triple garage.

While offering a personal oasis, the property is within easy reach of excellent road and rail links, and the village pub is just a short walk away.

Seller Insight
“Daffodil Cottage has been our cherished home since 2001. When we first acquired it, the property was in desperate need of modernisation. We devoted ourselves to lovingly restoring and extending it, ensuring every detail was thoughtfully considered. Being a listed building situated in a conservation area, this project was a labour of love.”

“Originally, we were drawn to the cottage with the intention of renovating and selling it, however, we quickly fell in love with its charm and the vibrant community of Alconbury Weston. The warmth of the village, the friendly neighbours, and delightful events like the safari suppers made us decide to stay. The sense of community here is truly wonderful.”

“Our favourite space in the cottage is undoubtedly the kitchen. It features a lovely, warming Aga and a cosy TV area, making it a very social space perfect for entertaining friends. Our dogs particularly enjoy the warmth of the Aga during the colder months. The snug is another beloved spot. The thatched part of the house offers a unique comfort—warm in the winter and cool in the summer.”

“We take pride in our low-maintenance garden, which offers a tranquil space to relax. It is frequented by wildlife, muntjacs and various birds including woodpeckers, starlings and goldfinches”

"The house has proven to be an excellent venue for parties, offering a great flow and ample space provided by the extension. Many celebrations have featured a large marquee attached to the house via the bi-fold doors to give extra space for dancing and catering."

“The villages are enchanting during Christmas, with carols around the tree, a Christmas tree festival at the shared church, and during the summer family fun days on the village green and the annual village fete. My husband served on the parish council and I was a girl guiding leader and more recently the joint district commissioner for the same, we have been deeply involved in the community. The village pub is a charming gathering place and has wonderful food, we also have the Sports and Social Club and The Manor in Alconbury, both within walking distance. The villages are truly is a slice of heaven, combining rural tranquillity with excellent transport links.”

“Our neighbours have become great friends, and it will be heart-wrenching to leave them. We have shared many joyous occasions, from jubilee parties to coronations, always looking out for each other and holding keys to one another's homes.”

“Leaving Daffodil Cottage will be incredibly difficult for us. It has been a wonderful home where we have created countless memories, especially raising our daughter here. We poured our heart and soul into renovating this house, and it holds a very special place in our hearts. We will miss it and the village deeply.”
