The Mill House, Isle Brewers, TA3 6QL

About the Area

Isle Brewers is a small but delightful village on the River Isle, from which it gets its name. It merits two entries in the Domesday Book identifying it as an area of farming and woodland across the River Isle. It remains so to this day with a population remarkably similar to that of those times, some 150 inhabitants. Much however has changed in the following millennium, although farming remains the predominant function of the village.

Within easy reach are various other villages and nearby towns including Taunton, Langport, Somerton and Street.

There are excellent state and independent schools in the area for all age groups, such as, Hazlegrove, Kings Taunton, Millfield, Queens Taunton and Sherborne.

Accommodation

The Mill House lies on the edge of the village Isle Brewers and has no immediate neighbours. The house and allied buildings are well positioned enjoying great privacy and pastoral views.

A gravelled driveway widens and provides plenty of parking with a path leading across the garden to the house which is mainly Edwardian built from red brick and blue lias stone, with various alterations and improvements carried out over the years - to include generous arched window to the contemporary extension and all new double glazed sash windows in the rest of the property. It undoubtedly has great style and appeal combining traditional and contemporary characteristics joined and enhanced by the artistic talents of the current owner and their previous family.

The reception hall gives access to a shower room, large utility/boot room and the spacious studio, which has large windows and light wells which flood the room with sunshine.

The hall is also the main entrance to the kitchen, living room and dining room, being the heart of the house. This is a bright and very pleasant area, again flooded with sunlight by the roof lantern and windows. The kitchen is fitted and equipped with Neff appliances and an extremely large 4. 5 metre central island.

A door leads from the dining room to a second hall and the original front door.

This wing has a cloakroom and two reception rooms.

The drawing room has an open fireplace, and the sitting room has a Clear-view wood burner stove.

Upstairs there is a generous main bedroom suite with a dressing room, and a large bathroom with both a shower and bath. There are two further double bedrooms one with en-suite shower room and one with original fireplace features. All the bedrooms have new sash windows...

Outside

The extensive gardens and grounds of approximately four acres to include the homestead, gardens, paddock and pond. A gravelled path meanders through the gardens and invites exploration of the hidden and secluded areas. There is a copse to the side of the property (on the other side of the lane) and a private wooded area within the gardens which was once part of the village church grounds. An ancient yew tree stands which is reputedly a thousand years old.

Adjacent to the tranquil pond is a decked Japanese style garden, with a pergola.

A pathway leads to a southerly facing paved and partly walled Moroccan garden terrace, affording extensive and peaceful far-reaching views through the poplar trees and across meadows.

Other buildings include a large garage, stabling and a greenhouse.

History

The Property

The Mill House has been in the vendor's family home since the mid 1960's and whose father was the influential 20th century Polish artist Caziel. During the interwar period Caziel attended the Ecole Des Beaux - Arts where he painted, as had artists Braque and Corbusier, and met Picasso who mentored him commenting that; 'You and I, we are the same; artists in exile', influencing Caziel in his artistic expressionism and cubist abstraction. Consequently, this secluded home has the light, creative atmosphere and pastoral setting of an artist's retreat, full of inspiration and somewhat evocative of the Bloomsbury group.

The village

At the time of Domesday the land was divided by William the Conqueror into two parcels – one part to his half - brother Robert, Earl of Mortain, the other portion was ceded to Alured de Ispania. Change of ownership or lordship of the village has been constant over time. By the turn of the 12th century the over...

About Us Roderick Thomas is an entirely independent firm with decades of experience selling and letting residential property. The firm has offices in Wells, Somerton and Castle Cary and covers a wide geographical area. The focus is to deliver a high level of service to clients to achieve the best sale or rental possible within a set timescale. The importance of widespread advertising and effective marketing is recognised and with each property, an individual campaign is planned. Having attracted buyers the next stage is negotiation and the firm prides itself on securing an agreement on the best terms and then progressing the sale to completion. Ongoing discussion with all parties including solicitors ensures an agreed timetable is maintained and hitches are anticipated when possible and addressed with action taken if necessary. Focusing fully on sales and letting and not being burdened with “head office” costs Roderick Thomas is able to offer highly competitive commission rates on all agency terms. These include: Sales SOLE SELLING RIGHTS – one agent is instructed to sell a property and a commission is paid to the agent on completion of the sale. JOINT AGENCY – two (occasionally more) agents are instructed. They work in conjunction and share the commission on completion. The rate is usually higher than the sole agency. MULTI-AGENCY – two (or occasionally more) agents are instructed. They work in competition and only the agent who sells receives a commission on completion. Again this is usually at a higher rate than sole agency (but not always). All prospective sellers are invited to contact Roderick Thomas to discuss the sale of any property. Lettings We offer landlords a full residential lettings service covering every aspect of the market.
