Property description & features
- Tenure: Freehold
About the property:
Situated close to the Bath and West Showground, The Shambles is a post war bungalow of non-traditional construction, comprising spacious two-bedroom accommodation with a large garden of just over half an acre. The property is in need of redevelopment or modernisation. An additional stone barn has scope for conversion into a two-storey dwelling, subject to planning.
About the inside:
The bungalow is spacious and benefits from oil fired central heating and double glazing. A glazed side porch opens into the dual aspect dining room which opens into a modest kitchen area with space for an electric cooker. A large living room enjoys views to the garden at the front, and fields behind, and is warmed by a large wood burning stove. Beyond the living room is the main entrance hall and front door, and two large double bedrooms, both with built in wardrobes. The main bedroom spans the depth of the bungalow and has fabulous far-reaching views. A recently fitted wet room completes the accommodation.
About the outside:
The entrance to the property is off Prestleigh Hill with a large parking area in front of the barn. The garden sits to the front of the bungalow and consists of a large lawn with a beautiful walnut tree taking centre stage and stunning far-reaching views to the east. Towards the bottom of the garden is an orchard of plum and apple trees, greenhouse, shed and former vegetable garden.
The stone barn consists of a two-storey building with the first floor accessed by a ladder, and a single storey workshop, both with wooden double doors providing access. The barn lends itself for conversion to a two-storey dwelling, subject to planning.
About the area:
The village of Prestleigh is located just on the edge of Shepton Mallet with easy access to the south. Castle Cary station is the nearest train station (within approximately 5.5 miles) with fast links to London.

Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on May 11, 2022
Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:
Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s
The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on May 11, 2022
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on August 23, 2024 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
