The Story
From their gorgeous home in Bray, the current owners can wander down the high street, pause in independent shops and dine out in Michelin-starred restaurants. They have enjoyed all the pleasures of village life while also benefiting from the exceptional privacy of their own home, which nestles in a gated community. “My husband bought this house 20 years ago when it was just five years old,” she explains. “He wanted to be right at the heart of Bray and this property had the very rare feature of a garage and additional courtyard parking. It was also a good-sized family home, with accommodation across three storeys, which ticked all the boxes for him at the time. It offered great living and entertaining space and had a private, courtyard garden, as well as access to a lovely, communal lawned garden.”
LIGHT TOUCHES
Over the years since then, the attractive property at West Court has been updated as necessary. The house has been redecorated throughout; the master bedroom has been refloored and the en suite shower room has been updated. Rooms are sunny and bright, with largely neutral décor. The house, which has a Georgian-like design, has doors, windows and other period-style features throughout. “It is a lovely, light house, with an airy ambience. It is a very comfortable and easy place to live,” she adds. “Furthermore, its design has worked well for us over the years as our needs have changed.”
GENEROUS LIVING
The handsome, red-brick house sits at the end of the terrace within the gated courtyard. Steps lead up to the front door which then opens into a long hallway. To the right, is the very capacious sitting room, where sun streams in through two Georgian-style windows. “This is a great room for both daily living and special occasions,” she observes. “It is large enough that you can arrange it with two separate seating areas or with a formal dining space at one end.” She added: “We have an open fire in here which is wonderful in the winter months and brings a cosy atmosphere to the room despite its generous size.”
SUMMER DAYS
The hall leads to a cloakroom and then to the kitchen breakfast room at the back of the house. Here, the kitchen space has been creatively designed for exceptional convenience when cooking and the breakfast room section has French windows on to the garden. “We love spending time in this part of the house during the summer, when we keep the doors to the courtyard open and everyone wanders in and out. There is a very easy flow between the inside and outside of the house and the courtyard looks gorgeous at night when it is all lit up.” New owners may, she adds, wish to consider opening the kitchen up to the sitting room to create one very sizeable, open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. “This could certainly suit some lifestyles but we have enjoyed the layout as it is,” she agrees.

FAMILY TIMES
Three bedrooms and the family bathroom are situated on the first floor of the house. The beautiful master bedroom and its en suite shower room encompass the entire second floor. “Our children are grown-up now but when any of them return they can stay on the first floor, where they have their own bathroom,” she says. “We love the master bedroom – which has skylight windows, as well as a window to the front – because it is so spacious and light.”
BEAUTIFUL BRAY
In addition to their charming courtyard garden, the owners can enjoy the beautiful, communal garden. This has a large lawn where residents can walk, picnic and unwind in the sunshine. “We have lovely neighbours and often get together for barbecues out here,” she says. On sunny days, they often stroll off for walks beside the River Thames or through Braywick Park Nature Reserve. “There is also plenty to do from a social point of view in Bray,” she continues. “As well as the Michelin-starred restaurants, there are some great pubs in the area and there is a village fete every year. We have also enjoyed being able to get into London very easily, via the motorway or the new Elizabeth Line. This is a perfect house if you need to be able to commute or to travel abroad and – because it is gated and has secure, off-road parking – it could be an ideal lock-up-and-leave home.” She adds: “We will miss living here when we leave but hope to stay in the village as we love it so much.”
SETTING THE SCENE
The house at West End Court sits within an exclusive, gated development. The property benefits from two allocated parking spaces, plus a private garage. It has its own courtyard garden and shared access to well-maintained, communal, lawned grounds
