When the current owners of the house at Boltwood Grove heard about the new Medbourne development, they thought they would take a look. They were very happy in their Kents Hill home but wanted a little more space and a private driveway. “Our children were four and eight at the time and we wanted them to have bigger bedrooms,” one of the owners recalls. “We looked around the show home and immediately thought it was lovely – we knew they were going to build three in that style and it really appealed to us. It was nicely proportioned, with good-sized rooms and an elegant entrance. The reception hall was very large, almost like a room in itself, and the house had a private driveway.” She adds: “We also loved the location of the development, especially its proximity to Shenley Wood.”

Rooms

AN IMPRESSIVE HOUSE
It was 22 years ago, that the family bought the property off-plan and went on to make it their own. “We have made a few changes over the years, refreshing the kitchen four years ago, replacing the shower in the master bedroom en suite shower room and redecorating as necessary,” she explains. “We also replaced shrubs to the front of the house with pebbles and replaced the slabs to the front door with paving.” The impressive property has been an easy, comfortable property to live. It has worked well as a family home and has been a great place to entertain friends and family. “It is also has a sense of space and openness,” she adds.

ENTERTAINING AT HOME
Entered via its colonnaded, portico-style front door, the detached Boltwood Grove house certainly exudes an abundance of kerb appeal. Inside, its reception hall is a welcoming space that comes into its own during parties and celebrations. “I have often thought we could put a table in here for Christmas dinner if we had lots of guests,” she muses. To the right of the hall is the study, which catches the afternoon sun and is perfect for anyone wishing to work from home; it could equally make a great playroom or teenagers’ den. “The sitting room, which has lots of space for both family living and special occasions is also on this side of the house,” she says.

WORK, REST AND PLAY
The dining room is opposite the sitting room. This has been a superb room for dinner parties and Sunday lunches, but also doubles as another workspace. “I like to work in here because it is so lovely and light,” she admits. “There are three windows – two facing the Grove and one facing the back garden: I love looking out from here as I am working.” Also downstairs are the kitchen breakfast room, utility room and cloakroom. The kitchen now features slab cabinet doors in a cream high-gloss, with light work surfaces above. “This was always a great family space when the children were younger,” she observes.

LIGHT FANTASTIC
All four bedrooms are double in size and are located on the first floor of the house. The master bedroom and its en suite shower room are to the back of the house, with windows looking out over the garden. Another bedroom also has an en suite shower room, while the remaining two bedrooms share the family bathroom. “One of the bedrooms has three windows and a dual aspect. This is probably my favourite bedroom,” she says.

BEST OF ALL WORLDS
The owners have enjoyed sitting out in their garden on sunny days. There is space here for outside dining and relaxation, as well as for children to play. A driveway, for two cars to park, leads to the garage, which is also double in size. “There are 11 houses, including ours, in the Grove and in addition to our individual, off-road parking spaces, there are three parking bays, each of which can accommodate two cars, so there is plenty of parking for guests.” Walking through Shenley Wood has been one of their great pleasures over the years. They have also enjoyed their proximity to good schools, shopping areas, central Milton Keynes and the train station. “My husband and I both worked in London for a time and it was always very easy to commute.” Now they are moving on, they will miss the convenience of the setting, as well as its sense of peace. “Because this is a cul-de-sac, it is always very quiet,” she agrees.
