- Secluded woodland within Exmoor National Park
- This woodland is not suitable for residential use
Brai Wood is a peaceful, secluded woodland tucked away in the heart of Devon’s countryside within Exmoor National Park.
From the entrance, a set of steps ascends from the main access track to a well-maintained woodland path that winds through the trees, leading to a large grassy clearing with stunning views across the valley. This flat area is perfect for setting up a camp base and enjoying woodland activities. Here, you’ll find convenient storage, a basic shelter, and a composting toilet located along one of the many winding paths throughout the site.
The upper areas of the woodland are dominated by towering Douglas firs, while the lower levels feature hazel and alder trees. In the southeast section, recent felling has made way for new growth, with a diverse mix of rowan, ash and hawthorn bordered by veteran poplar and beech trees. For those seeking a project, there is scope to clear the scrub and replant further trees of your own to eventually form a tree canopy.
Wildlife is abundant, with deer frequently roaming the woodland, as evidenced by the numerous tracks found across the site. Brai Wood also enjoys access to a shared area near a charming, fast-flowing stream close to the main entrance which joins the river Brai in nearby Brayford. Another feature within the slopes of the southern side is a series of natural water springs.
Nearby, the village of Brayford, situated along the River Bray, is just a short drive away. For coastal adventures, the stunning Exmoor coastline, with its picturesque beaches, towns, and villages, is only a 30-minute drive to the north.
Ward is North Molton and the county council is Devon.

The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
