Situation
The Nook is situated in the west of the centre of the Mid Argyllshire County town of Lochgilphead.

Lochgilphead has a good range of local shops and amenities that easily cater for everyday needs and requirements. As well as a mid-size Co-op, Tesco Express and Morrisons Daily, there is a bank, dentist, post office, vets, kennels, chemist, ironmongers, butcher and deli. There are local and reputable fast-food establishments as well as a number of friendly local pubs, cafes and restaurants. Lochgilphead also has a good range of professional services. The Mid Argyll hospital is under a mile away from the Nook.

Further shopping is available in Oban which includes a Tesco and Tesco home delivery service and other supermarkets. Glasgow is the nearest major city and has a complete and extensive range of shopping, cultural, higher educational and leisure services normally associated with a major city centre.

A local bus service provides a local and city service and the nearest main line rail station is at Oban.

There is reputable local primary and secondary schooling in Lochgilphead with a school bus service which is also a service bus.

Further education is available locally through Argyll College which is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

The front green at Lochgilphead has in recent times been extensively landscaped, now providing a pleasant meeting point at the public square, a children’s play area as well as pleasant coastal walking and sitting areas beside the river Gilp as it enters the sea. The historic Crinan Canal towpath is close by and is a lovely place to walk and cycle, in the summer months it is always busy with the spectacle of yachting and pleasure boating craft as they navigate the canal north and south using the waterway to connect the inland sea lochs, the Clyde estuary and the Kyles of Bute with the more testing sailing of the western Isles.

The area is well known for its dramatic and natural scenic beauty, and this has always drawn people to the area making it a popular tourist destination. Lochgilphead has a good, friendly community spirit and throughout the year there are numerous events, markets and craft fairs.

The Mid Argyll swimming pool is in Lochgilphead, and there is a gymnasium fitness facility in the Lochgilphead joint campus. There is also a golf club, a bowling club, horse riding and near endless miles of lovely cycling country.

The immediate district offers a fine range of relaxing outdoor pursuits with the aforementioned pleasant canal-sidewalks and more testing hill walks. Field sports are available in the area and include stalking, driven and walked up shooting as well as fishing, both sea, river and inland hill loch.

About 6.7 miles to the west is the picturesque village of Crinan Village with its pretty little and sheltered harbour, basin and anchorage. Crinan forms the northwestern sea end of the Crinan Canal which starts at Ardrishaig in the south on Loch Gilp. There are ferry terminals within the district which provide easy access to the islands of Arran, Islay and Gigha.
