Chelmer Wood is a stunning example of ancient English woodland, offering a secluded and private retreat that is both easy to manage and perfect for anyone considering woodland ownership.
The woodland boasts a rich variety of tree species, including mature oak, cherry, hornbeam, sweet chestnut, maple, ash, hazel, holly, along with occasional yew, cedar, birch, and laurel. In spring, vibrant carpets of bluebells cover the forest floor, accented by scattered primroses, creating a breathtaking seasonal display.
The terrain is flat and clear, making it easy to explore on foot. The well-spaced trees form natural open glades, ideal for camping and woodland activities. Chelmer Wood benefits from bordering open fields to the south and west allowing light to pour in throughout the day.
Wildlife thrives here, with frequent sightings of deer, pheasants, and hares, adding to the woodland's charm and natural appeal.
As an ancient semi-natural woodland, Chelmer is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO). This ensures the conservation of its beauty and biodiversity while still permitting responsible woodland management.
Conveniently located, the picturesque villages of Little Waltham and Great Waltham are within walking distance and offer shops and welcoming pubs. The city of Chelmsford is just a five-minute drive away and London is within easy reach at just over an hour.
Ward is Broomfield and The Walthams and the county council is Essex.
Boundaries: The boundary is open to the south, east and north. The west is securely fenced and borders a private sports ground. South borders open fields and east and north join neighbouring woodland.
Access: There is excellent vehicle access via a track on the perimeter of the field and then via a shared locked gate. The track within the wood is also in good condition. Parking is possible inside the woodland.

Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
