Property History
In Chichester during the 16th Century the main commodities were wheat and malt for brewing and leather tanning. Stephen Hack inherited the leather merchants founded by his father and, in 1804 moved it into the Sadlers Warehouse building in Little London. A local architect Stanley Roth purchased the disused Mill in the early 1960's which he leased to the Council to open a new museum in 1964. The building remained as the Chichester District Museum until 2012 when it moved to the new Novium building in Tower Street.
Immediate Environment
Located in Little London, a quiet street within the City Walls, it benefits from having Priory Park, Marks & Spencer Food, The Festival Theatre, Pallant Gallery and the coffee shops and facilities of the city centre nearby.
Situation
The property occupies a superb, central city position in the highly regarded Little London, close to green space in the form of Priory Park.
Chichester offers a wide variety of cultural, leisure and shopping facilities, which include the renowned Chichester Festival Theatre, Ancient Cathedral, Summer Arts Festival, Pallant House Gallery, museums and restaurants.
Leisure pursuits within the area include sailing from the many centres around Chichester Harbour, horse riding and walking on the miles of foot and bridle paths on The South Downs and around the harbour, golf and tennis within the general area. Horseracing may be enjoyed at Goodwood, which hosts 'Glorious Goodwood' and also the annual Festival of Speed and Revival meetings for motor enthusiasts.
A mainline railway station at Chichester offers services across the South Coast, London (Victoria), and Gatwick whilst Havant (to the west) offers a faster service to London (Waterloo). The A27 also provides good road links across the South Coast towards Brighton, Portsmouth or Southampton, or to the A3.
