Description
A dreamy, fairytale cottage with great character and charm which has been expertly renovated and decorated to create a home with classic and timeless appeal.
Exposed stone walls, original oak panelling and doors, stunning inglenook fireplaces, window seats, flagstone floors have all been retained and blend seamlessly with modern comforts.
Accommodation
The front door opens to a generous central hallway. Flagstone floors and original oak panelling create a stunning, authentic entrance. To the left is a spacious sitting room, where a log burning stove as a focal point and a window seat is an attractive feature overlooking the front garden. To the right of the hallway is the dining room which again has a window seat and an imposing Ingelnook fireplace with original ovens and traditional wood burning stove for warmth in the winter months.
Stairs rise between the dining room and the kitchen area. These are attractive, painted wood with panelling, concealing under stairs storage cupboards.
The kitchen has base and wall units with white corian work surface and seamless sink. There is an integrated undercounter fridge, space for a slimline dishwasher, and an electric, single Aga provides additional cosiness and cooking facilities. A window over the sink offers a gorgeous view of the rear terrace and garden beyond.
Upstairs, there are 2 generous bedrooms, and downstairs at the rear of the property a utility room has a work surface and storage areas and space for an undercounter freezer and a washing machine/dryer, a corner cupboard conceals the water cylinder. Beyond the utility area there is a downstairs shower room which has underfloor heating and attractive fixtures and fittings, all illuminated by a large roof light.
At the end of the central hallway a delightful stable door opens out to the rear garden,. Here a smart paved terrace is a perfect place for alfresco dining, and as it is west facing it enjoys the best of the afternoon and evening sun.
The terrace is bordered by an attractive stone, retaining wall and steps lead up to the lawned garden, which stretches towards a magnificent central magnolia tree beyond which there are further shrubs, and a timber garden tool shed. It is a mature and sheltered oasis of privacy for relaxing and unwinding.

About the area
Butleigh is a friendly and popular historic village with a population of around a thousand, a thriving general stores shop and post office, an active church, a very well-regarded nursery and primary school, church hall, village hall, various societies and organisations including a local cricket club. It’s within easy reach of the surrounding towns with Yeovil to the south, Bath and Bristol to the north. The A303 is just south and there is a main rail line station at Castle Cary (Paddington about 90 minutes) and the Newt and Hauser & Wirth are with 30mins.
Glastonbury's past and present are linked with its dominant landmark, the Tor. It's been a religious centre throughout history and further back into the times of legends. There was a Celtic monastery here by 500 AD which, during the next 1000 years evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential abbeys. The town grew up alongside the Abbey and today it's a small but thriving town and a major tourist venue, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. Medieval Glastonbury - designated a conservation area - clusters around the evocative ruins of the Abbey.
Just 5 miles from Glastonbury is Wells which is the smallest city in England (population 10,000). Its centre is the Market Place (local markets twice a week) surrounded by many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace. Immediately to the south (2 miles) of Glastonbury is the more recent town of Street and these centres provide a huge range of facilities and amenities. There are excellent state and independent schools in the area including Crispins, St Dunstans, Wells Blue School, Strode College, Millfield, Wells Cathedral School, and the Bruton schools.
