Standing tall one of the most beautiful homes in the village steeped in heritage with an abundance of grandeur & bespoke features – modernised sensitively and arranged over three floors with retained features given the age of the building but offering a true wow factor. This property has to be seen to appreciate the craftmanship & tradition that lies behind these walls dating back to the 1700’s.
The owners love…
When we first approached Tun House we were blown away the history, the feeling of calm and warmth when we stepped foot in the door – the staircase is a thing of beauty dating back to the 1600’s we are still in awe of it. We loved the space, flow and beautiful exterior to this magnificent listed building – we knew there and then this would make the most wonderful home to raise our family. It has been a truly spectacular family home and a pleasure to live in and maintain.
Upon entering you are greeted with a welcoming hallway with feature parquet flooring. On the ground floor level we have our main sitting room which comprises a bay window with built in seating and our glorious inglenook fireplace – the perfect place to sit and unwind with views over the village through the sash window with the fire roaring on those cosy winter mornings. We have a second reception room being our family room with again a wonderful fireplace with a wood burner we love gathering here as a family and have created many fond memories. Our kitchen is of an excellent size and has an abundance of heritage with the exposed wooden flooring and our Aga. We have a central island making it the perfect place to all gather for breakfast. Our kitchen is bespoke and in keeping with the age of the house but has all the necessary built in appliances and equipment. We love that the kitchen overlooks the courtyard and terrace. Our final room downstairs is the main family dining room – we have enjoyed many Christmases here gathered as a family.
Leading up the first staircase will take you to the first floor which comprises our principal bedroom with en-suite, a two further bedrooms and our family bathroom. Each room is substantial in size with ample room for storage and furniture. We have feature fireplaces and the age of the building shows with small details of carvings in the windows and cupboards of those who lived here some 300 years ago.
Up the second staircase leading to the top floor we have our main bedroom with a walk in dressing area/storage and a modern en-suite. We have our tranquil study and a two further bedrooms all again of generous proportions.
Outside you will find our wrap around garden with feature courtyard leading to the annexe – the garden is mainly laid to lawn with mature shrubs and a paved terrace which we very much enjoy as it allows us to dine outside during the summer months.
We have a double garage with bin store and utility area and leading upstairs is the self-contained annexe. It offers a kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom. It is ideal for when friends or family come to stay to have this additional separate living accommodation.
We are situated in the quaint picturesque Whitwell village offering an abundance of greenery and community spirit. We have an array of amenities locally to include the GP surgery, tea room, public house & primary school. There are local events which is wonderful to gather the residents all year around. We are close to surrounding towns of Harpenden, Hitchin & Welwyn Garden City. There are public transport links and high speed trains from Harpenden/Welwyn Garden City which will take you to Kings Cross/St Pancras within 30 minutes. We are fortunate to have towns nearby but to be tucked away enough to experience the village life offering tranquility and a more relaxed pace from the hustle and bustle.
Agent’s opinion – it is hard to express the emotions I experienced stepping foot in Tun House for the first time. I was blown away and in astonishment of this beautiful family home. I am privileged to be offering for sale a house full of Heritage, those period features you could only ever dream about. It is of huge proportions with a generous 3,600 sq ft of magnificence. The annexe offers great additional accommodation making this already wonderful home even more attractive. I cannot wait to show you around this one of a kind family home.
VIEWING HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
