A wonderful example of medieval architecture intact after centuries and still creating a unique atmosphere with its large rooms, beautiful stone features, wooden ceilings and magnificent cellars. Built in the late 1100's on the remains of a Roman castrum, it became the property of the Buondelmonti.
Already owners of several other castles in the region, Castello di Bibbione, Montefiridolphi and Castello di Fabbrica, the Buondelmonti family gradually transformed the castle between 1450 and 1500 into a noble residence, making it an interesting fusion of medieval and Renaissance forms, inhabiting it until the disappearance of their last heir, Luisa Buondelmonti in 1845.
There are fabulous and very extensive cellars below the castle, approximately 390 sq m, divided into eight interconnecting rooms and voluminous corridors, which could be developed into a magical restaurant or another touristic venue with the correct permissions in place. On the other side of the valley, directly opposite, and only 2.5km or approximately a five minute drive away is the new and beautifully designed Cantina Antinori, one of Tuscany's most impressive and well known wineries.
Not included in the plans (or sq m) are very large attic spaces which could provide very useful storage and plant rooms.
Restored by the current owners and furnished with precious antiques, it has a lift and a lovely swimming pool overlooking the fortifications and surrounded by the Roman-style statues, located in the double height adjacent loggia.
Across the garden there is a secondary house currently divided into two, two bedroom apartments, providing extra accommodation.
Energy class G: Index 565.7kWh/sq m/per annum.
