The house itself had already been completed when they first stepped inside. “We found it to be a bright, airy, new home, with lots of light throughout,” he remembers. “The rooms were all a good size and the drawing room, which has windows at both ends, was especially inviting.” The property, which was ready to move into, has been enhanced in recent years. Carpets have been replaced, and an outdoor decked relaxation area has been created to the front of the house. “This is very private and has been ideal during these recent months when everyone has been spending so much time outside,” he adds.
SPRING AND SUMMER
Designed in a traditional British home style, the imposing red brick property, is entered from the front. At ground-floor level, its open-plan drawing and dining room is to the left of the reception hall. “This room has French windows at its south-east-facing end, making it wonderful in spring and summer,” the owner admits. “We can enjoy the fresh air and being able to wander out into the garden.” This long room has ample space for comfortable seating. “It is a great space for entertaining – especially in the warmer months,” he adds. “We have had a number of parties here over the years.”
INSIDE AND OUT
To the other side of the house is the kitchen breakfast room. Again, this has been designed as a superb family space. There is plenty of space for food storage and preparation, as well as for another table for casual meals. “We always had a four-seat table in here, which could be extended as we needed it to be. There was also room for all the mod cons, including an American-style fridge-freezer.” Another set of French windows enhances the easy flow on to the outside space and also ensures lots of natural light. “We have had barbecues in the garden here or out on the decking at the front and it has always worked very well,” he observes.
VERSATILE LAYOUT
Three of the five bedrooms are on the first floor of the house, where they share the family bathroom. Two more bedrooms, each with an en suite shower room, can be found on the top floor. This arrangement has offered exceptional flexibility, not only allowing for dedicated family and guest areas, but also for rooms to have alternative uses as study, office or leisure spaces if required. “There is plenty of room here for everyone to spread out here and enjoy their privacy,” the owner agrees.
A HAPPY HOME
Oxley Park has also been everything the family hoped it would be. It has given them good access to schools, shops, restaurants, coffee shops, leisure facilities and other amenities. Central Milton Keynes is approximately three miles away and it takes just three minutes to drive to the train station. “It is also nice to live somewhere with so many other families,” he says. “There is lots of parking here for visitors and we are close to five or six different parks, which are all connected to each other, so there is always somewhere to walk or cycle ride.” Also close by is the North Bucks Way, a long distance walk of 33 miles, which connects with other footpaths and passes through the village of Whaddon, close to Oxley Park. “This has been a great place to live and we feel quite sentimental about it now we are leaving,” he adds. “It has been a very happy home.”
