Taunton is Somerset's county town and is a centre for pubs, eateries and activities. The town is home to the Taunton Flower Show - described as the 'Chelsea of the West', which has been a regular feature of the town since the 19th century. A variety of sporting clubs and venues can also be found in Taunton, including Somerset County Cricket Club, football ground and racecourse. Vivary Park offers children's playgrounds, a model railway track, tennis courts and a golf course, providing plenty of family friendly activities. Situated halfway between the Blackdown Hills and the Quantock Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Monkton Heathfield still retains much of its appealing village identity. Its easy to get into the countryside and there are some beautiful picnic spots, with panoramic views across the Vale of Taunton. The Coleridge Way is an historic trail right across the Quantock Hills with views across the Bristol Channel from its highest point.
