Merthyr Tydfil has a rugby club, football club, and leisure centre for the energetic. For an extra buzz of adrenaline, try BikePark Wales – less than 4 miles away at Abercanaid – with all-weather mountain bike trails for all abilities. Closer to home there are some lovely town parks to enjoy, including Whitey Park and Thomastown Park, and for a spot of culture, you can visit Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery, in its lovely parkland and lakeside setting.

Porth Y Dyffryn is close to the A4060, which links with the A465 and the A470. The A465 is the connecting route between Abergavenny and Neath, and the A470 heads south to Cardiff and the M4 or north right across the National Park, connecting with the M40 at Brecon. These are all key routes for East Wales. Commuters can make the most of frequent train services to Cardiff Central or Cardiff Queen Street from Merthyr Tydfil, taking about an hour.
